I guess I just hate the sight of an un-countered argument.

But you are right. I doubt I'll post what I was thinking, but it was fun writing it down. :D

THJ - Retro-rides is one of the most banger-unfriendly website forums around, you wouldn't have seen what happened on Ovalchat when some of their members accused a banger driver of stealing one of their members cars, complete and utter chaos

I doubt I'll post what I was thinking, but it was fun writing it down. :D

A lesson I've learned over the years. Sometimes all you need to do is type out the reply, step away from the computer for awhile, come back, read it, and click the back button without posting.

I've done that many times over the past few years online, and you know what, it's not often I still feel like hitting 'submit post' after re-reading it.

I do, however, agree with your other point- I too hate to see a biased point uncountered. Of course, I highly doubt anyone's going to change their opinions on banger racing (or any subject) because of a reply on a message board. People are weird like that. :(

I've stripped more than fifty cars in the last two days. Most of which are going to be hitting the banger track. All of them are ones I've had for awhile, but that had stubborn paint I couldn't get off with acetone. Well, Jeff Fleetwood recommended a better stripper, and this stuff works like crazy. Messy, gooey, and it burns like crazy if you spill it on yourself, but it's very effective.

Some very interesting rides will be hitting the track soon- representing the USA, UK, Germany, France, Sweden, Italy, Japan, and Australia.

Well Cookie103 off Ovalchat has replied about the stolen Practical Classics Granada on Retro Rides:

Quote:

I could go on for ages, but I wont
to all those that say its terrible that banger racers get all these classics to race, some of the cars have been in banger drivers hands for years, some are bought through the classic car mags, and some off ebay. money makes the world go round and if the money is there to pay for a car then surely the purchaser can do whatever the f### he wants with it, even if that means supplying the classic car world with spares after the cars been stripped. if it realy is so bad that the cars are raced, why the heck don't YOU do something about it and buy the cars! ill stop there otherwise ill go on and on and on..................
that said nicking cars is sh!t

incidently there is currently a very rare and extreemly rotton farina (of some sort) estate which has just been passed on to a banger racer from another driver who has had the car for years. when the car gets raced the pictures may or may not end up on here, either way if any of you lot knew what it was you would probably be physicly sick, but thats the way it is.

I'm off to ENJOY my classics, wether it be mint or smashed to pieces.

He is the owner of the famous Six Bolt banger magazine Austin Maxi, which was sadly writtten off in a crash a while back :( , it will eventually be raced

I haven't forgotten that. ;) I was just counting what I've got stripped and stripping as we speak.

I added a few more cars to the stripper tonight. And still have a bunch to finish cleaning off. I've spent a good three or four hours each of the past three nights working on this. This weekend will be spent painting lots and lots of car bodies (if the weather is good), to build up a nice supply of cars to last through the winter months.

I still have no Rover SD1s, so I'm looking forward to getting the ones you guys are sending.

Actually, I believe that's an Opel Manta. There's a Camaro in picture 20, though.

Here is Retro Rides opinion on model bangers:

Quote:

Comes complete with scale dog on a chain, 9" petrol cutoff, four screaming brats, chain-smoking pregnant wife, dole cheque and hi-ab to steal other model cars.

I normally don't encourage this sort of behavior, but I do have a mischievous streak...

If you really want to get their goats, recreate that exact scene using Vanguards.

More Retro Rides banger bashing:

Quote:

Didn't intend to imply that all banger racers are thieving b*******, but I don't see why the banger racing fraternity feel the need to encourage the destruction of rare old cars when it would be easier and cheaper to use cars about 10 yrs old that are written off for minor damage (stolen/recovered, bent door etc). There's 1000's of these about now due to the high cost of repairs and the "throw away" culture we now live in.

I'm looking a few years down the line when there aren't enough cars to go around and repairabe classics are thin on the ground.

Quote:

its neither cheaper or easier to use 10 year old cars. ANY car that uses injection or any sort of electric wizardry is harder to prep, and older classics are more proffit bearing once they are stripped. Anyhow, old cars bend better!
Ive been into classics for 27 years having been pulled around the shows by my dad, who is an ex racer him self. Ive also been into banger racing for 7 years or so and ive got a very good understanding on how both sides work, I see things from both sides of the fence and the only way many old classics have been saved is by the spares that have been removed from cars that are raced. In my eyes there is no problem with 60's and 70's cars being raced if there is no one to buy them, which ther isnt. if there was then they wouldnt be being raced would there!

Quote:

Well, for every banger racer that wins something interesting on Ebay to smash to bits, there will be someone else who wanted it also (and who may well have wanted to do something constructive with it), who bid £5 less than him.

End of the day, if you own it you can do whatever you like with it, thats fair enough. Just a shame that folk enjoy taking rare old stuff that has survived against the odds far longer than it was designed to and far longer than the vast majority of its ilk, and take such pride in mullering the sh*t out of of it for fun.

Well, I decided to redo a bunch of my older cars. The following are being stripped:

Pugs
Crashmaro
LeCarcass
Crash Test Dummies
Rubberneckers
2FaCe
Ghetto Long Gang
Revvers
Rolls Over
Shattered Dreams
Crazy 8s
Damn Yankees
Chicken!
Car Killer
Generic Lee
Panty Raiders
Xploder
Squarebird - dropped from line, redo car as Lucky
"91 Lucky" '91 Thunderbird- replaced entirely- see above. "Squarebird" is retired as a team name as it is specific to that body style Thunderbird only, hence a lousy team name.

Look what I found today at a small model shop :D

Posted Image

Hongwell/Cararama Austin Mini Vans! I would have got more but my budget was limited to 2, but for £2.99 each you can't go wrong. They are the same scale as my Ford Corsair, so they fit in quite nicely. The one on the right I've prepped as a banger, and I'll do the other one at some point. I can't decide who to do them as, though

I get my Cararamas from the local pound shop, they once had about 200 Ford Corsairs and mk1 Capris, they sold very quickly!! :o

I don't know what to class the Mini as, it's not really a van seeing as it's got a fully open back, I prefer to class it as an estate or even a hearse

The same shop had a Vanguards Morris Marina reduced to £5, but I couldn't buy it owing to the money situation

I think it would go in the micro bangers (Ford Fiestas, Nissan Micras, Metros, Vauxhall Novas etc)

Yeah. It's a really cool little model, I was thinking of doing one as a Devils car and I don't know about the other
