Looks to be very rusty to say the least. Too bad they ran the stock tires on it. I assume you can't run like 12 ply tires, swap rear axles or swap engines. |

you can swap axles at most tracks (and engines) but I prefer seeing big old american cars like that on regular wheels not Ford Transit van axles |

Good day racing ^^^^ :P

Yeah I dont see a point changing the axle, its ok if the car didnt have one but imo leave the tyres stock. |

I take it in Banger racing that a higher emphasis is placed on the agility of the car more so than building a tank like vehicle. Guess I was trying to take building principles from American style derbies and apply them to banger racing which obviously wouldn't work. With that stated, how do you guys think this '78 Chrysler New Yorker would fare on the tracks in the UK? ![]() They weigh about 4,700 lbs and have that massive 'pointy' front bumper which would have to be a plus in trashing other cars. These came from the factory with torsion bar suspsensions so the whole car could be lowered a bit to improve handling. As shown in this drawing from 1975, it has a massive front sub frame. It's one of the strongest front ender cars for derbies, so would this not apply to banger racing as well? ![]() Just a few thoughts from a clueless banger fan.

Yeah building tank-like cars is frowned upon at most meetings although the Firecracker can be a right weld fest http://www.fototime.com/ftweb/bin/ft.dll/pictures?userid={3777FE2C-7D7A-4C70-B8A3-237E7C2B8D22}&albumid={B4DED507-D82F-4FF5-A7A5-B577D60BFFC9} |

Looks like alot of American iron showed up at that meeting. See a few 73-76 Chevy sedans and the All Bubba is a Pontiac roundback wagon plus a '59 Impala. Looks like they leafed the front end of this 60s Caddy. They don't even allow that in modified derbies over here! |

not very well not unless it was a big meeting with other yanks- 1) they dont corner very well. 2) the steering brake easy. 3) being heavy they are very clumsy. 4) most of all being so big they become a bit of a target. 5) most drivers know just where to hit a American to kill it. this is what i have heared and seen myself Edited by mookie427, Nov 20 2008, 03:14 PM.

it would probably do OK at a big meeting like the Firecracker where it is up against cars of similar weight/size, or would do even better at a small meeting where the emphasis is on racing and occasional wrecking - the Dodge Monaco estate which was at Standlake the same day as the Firecracker went all day despite taking a large amount of punishment |

As seen in my latest thread, I'm focusing on American style demo derby cars for the time being. I may get back into bangers (as both are very similar) but for now the derby bug has bitten. |

Well, since the demo derby contest is pretty much an all American car contest, I'd say we skip that idea this time around. Anyone object to damaged? |
