True it is a problem but it has been almost conclusively proven that the Plymouth didn't end up on the banger track, and even if it did it wasn't the same car as the one in the picture. The Datty almost certainly ended up on the track, but the driver supposedly had no knowledge of it being stolen Thats the Practical Classics Ford Granadas, isn't it? That's been missing for ages so it's most likely been exported, or it could've snuck onto the track a while ago I don't know a thing about the Riley though |

Totally off topic but... What followed in the Plymouth to that kind of damage to it? Those things are solid! Three or four sedan versions were used in the demo derby I went to last night- the sedan having had various names over the model's run- Satellite, Plymouth Fury, Dodge Monaco, and Dodge Coronet. |

WHY START THREADS LIKE THIS?YOU CLEARLY WANT THE SPORT ENDED. the plymouth wasnt followed in, clearly, it was hit from behind, if youre american you wont know what happens wen a driver does a real hit. |

Guilty- currently a Pennsylvanian, but I was born in New Jersey. I've never been to a real banger race, and the closest I've seen was an enduro twelve years ago, and a bunch of demolition derbies over the years. That said, I would absolutely love to see true banger racing catch on over here. As for the subject at hand... I suspect car thieves consider banger racers the perfect outlet for stolen rides. They don't need the registration to prove ownership, and the car will likely sit in a garage or backyard for a few months, out of view of people. And when it does turn up on the track, all the heat will fall onto the driver, while the true thief has likely already made his getaway. It'll always be a concern as long as there are jerks out there who insist on stealing cars. |

Actually I thought it was an interesting read. And I doubt very much that a small thread on a small diecast board in the states will be the end of banger racing. |

thats not the point, people start threads like this on major boards, but know a lot of people on here will think banger racers are scum. |

[Mod mode]Lets try and make this thread free from arguing, please![/Mod mode] Lets straighten this thread up a little..... 99.99% of racers out there are perfectly nice guys - it's the 0.01% that are giving it bad press lately, and it's up to the police and/or promoters to do what they want with the issue. Not that the police would be interested There has been some very 'hairy' discussions as of late on banger boards, mainly concerning a certain other forum's blind attitude towards banger racers, generalising all of them as thieving lower class scum, which they most certainly are not! That forum has changed most of it's ways now and people are beginning to accept banger racing. The reason it's been getting these kind of allegations thrown at it more than ever now is the fact that more and more classics are being stolen and never recovered, due to the negligence of the owner in not installing a tracker if it's a particularly valuable or rare car, like that Plymouth. That may not have gone onto the track, it may be in some obscure foreign country now, or it could have been stripped of it's parts and sold on the black market. A Mk.3 (I think) Cortina was stolen from someone, and everyone automatically jumped to the conclusion that it was the 'thieving banger racing scum piles' who did it. Almost every racer knows Cortina's like that are complete pants and they wouldn't race one unless they really, really had to! Then the board's members started making up excuses for why a banger racer would do it, which were all blatant lies made up to make it look like it really was them. Then, you get the classic car restorers on these boards. They'd happily buy part off a banger racer who's stripped a classic of all it's still useful parts. Without the banger racers these guys wouldn't have nearly so many available spare parts, so in ways they should thank them for that. There was also an isolated incident where a classic car restorer/fanatic (I prefer the term 'fanatic, because thats what some of them are!) who actually stole 2 A60's from a banger racers yard, even though both were completely beyond saving, just so they wouldn't get onto the track! I think I'd call that a tad hypocritical, don't you think? There has also been a marked increase in the number of HIAB trucks stolen over the past year or so by gangs of 'travellers' stealing to make a living, but I won't go into that now, I'm getting too cross already

It'll have to stay worthless then But on a more serious note, im sure there have been escorts stolen for rallying, and other cars stolen for other sports, and considering the thousands of cars wrecked each year in banger racing, a couple of stolen ones isnt really a big deal. Im not saying its right but its not a big problem. |

the only time its a problem to be honest is if its an IRREPLACEABLE time peice (aka passed through generations of 1 family) or the car is in current storage and not coverd by insurance ect where the person owning the vehicle dosent get anything for it when a car is stolen most insurance companys give out enough money to purchase a vehicle of same condition and value so if your un steady about your vehicles value get a insurance premium called an agreed valuation, this means they send a surveyer to come out and wright down all modifications all rust ect and he values the car that way the insurance pay out what the car is truely worth not what the little "book" says on there desk my cars agreed value is 1500 if it gets stolen im better off than having try to sell it due to no one wants to pay that much for an xr3i the only reason being its had 2 minor bits of welding and the rest is not rotten (plus the extras i have put on it) so yeh lol thats a hole load of stuff for u lot to look into
