This is a little project I've set myself, to turn these, a Carmichael Commando and Mk 2 Cortina, the Mk 2 chosen because the Mk.5 Matchbox is too wide. Thanks to Swifty for suggesting the use of a Carmichael ![]() Into this: ![]() I hacksawed the front off the Carmichael, and the rear off the Cortina. ![]() ![]() The next step involved me filling in the holes in the side of the back with sheet plastic, and cutting the innards down to size ![]() ![]() Stay tuned for updates, I'll have an interesting time moulding the body into shape - that's coming up next and I'm not looking forward to it

Hey Mookie,it might be a bit late now,but did you consider using the front of a Maisto MK2 Granada as they're narrower than the Matchbox MK 4? |

Yeah, it's a bit late - when I read this it was already all glued together UPDATE TIME! Using sheet plastic, I covered up the open end of the Carmichael, to provide a surface to glue the Cortina to, which I did ![]() Now begins the tricky task of shaping the campervan, using even more sheet plastic, copious amounts of superglue and a little bit of luck ![]() ![]() ![]() I then filled in all the gaps around the camper body with milliput, and extended the overhang a bit. I found some Hotwheels PR5 wheels to match the alloys used on the original, although I had to get rid of the lean steering on the Cortina to make them fit. Apologies for blurring photo - camera didn't like the light conditions. I did take this photo at about 10.30 PM ![]() Next comes paint! |

Of all the projects you've done, this has to be the one that impresses me the most. This is awesome Mookie, look forward to updates... |

Thanks! It's easily my most ambitious project - I've never had to create much of a banger from scratch before so it's a new experience for me. The only other one I've done that had this sort of work was Shelly's special Volvo |

Here it is with it's first coats, I sanded down some of the milliput after the first coat as I realised the paint showed up all the lumps which I hadn't sanded down enough![]() |

Quick update, it's had it's second (and in the yellow's case, 4th  ) coat of paint, it's looking like it'll work out well

I looked at photos of this car from other angles, and came to reaise that it is indeed blue - the photos I was copying it off made it look a different shade
No worries though, I just slapped some blue on carefully, so as not to ruin it too much. A minor set back, but I'd been expecting one at some point so I don't mind too muchOther than that, it's going very well! |
