Well, Johnny Jam '07 is less than sixty days away; time to start finalizing your plans to attend! What exactly IS a "Johnny Jam", you may ask? It's a backyard get-together of Johnny Lightning lovers from throughout New England and the northeast U.S. If you live anywhere in New England, or anywhere up to a 3 or 4 hour drive (eastern New York and Long Island; New Jersey;, Penn.), you shouldn't miss this! Simply put, it's the best thing this side of 'Fest itself! If you want to motor in from even farther away, we'd love to have you! For those who attended last year's "Jam", I don't have to remind you how much fun it was; for those who couldn't make it, you probably remember countless posts here from members who did attend, telling you what a blast it was. For those who weren't around last year, here's a handful of links to see for yourself what it was all about: http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/showthread.p...light=jammin%27 http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/showthread.php?t=154269 http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/showthread.php?t=154339 http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/showthread.php?t=154376 The date is Sat. July 28th; we put it on a Sat. for those who are traveling and possibly staying over in the area. The location is Dave Antonelli's home in North Kingston, RI; right next door to beautiful, scenic Newport, RI What can you expect at 'Jam? Camaraderie, for starters. You'll meet board members from all over, people you see here all the time and can actually get to know. Great folks, all. Last year, on short notice, we had twenty Johnny Lightning lovers come by, and with a little more notice, who knows how many more will attend this year? Next are the Door Prizes. We'll have some really neat Johnnie's to give away, including White Lightnings, limited edition "Exclusives", chase cars from other die-cast brands, and who knows what other surprises we may come up with! What else, you ask??? Goody bags!. Every attendee gets a nice little Goody Bag. Last year's included a couple of carded Johnnie's and a neat assortment of "Brand X" die-cast cars. They also each had a "one of a kind" custom JL from Bill "Dadvball" Hicks. Also included was a raffle ticket for the door prizes. The centerpiece of the Goody Bags however, was the special custom "Event Car". This year's car promises to be even better! Racing! We hope to have an actual schedule in place this year for Gravity racing, Rocket 500 racing, and slot car racing on a Thunder Jet 500 track. Prizes will be awarded to winners, but it's all just plain fun! Customs! This year we are putting together a "Custom" contest (still being "tweaked") with prizes for the winners; and we are also putting together some "Customizing for Beginners" seminars - topics ranging from "de-tampo-ing", wheel swaps, and chassis swapping for "Zingerizing" (or de-"Zingerizing", as the case may be. Yes, I may even finally take the plunge myself. Trading! Bring your best trade bait, because 'Jam is all about the fun and fellowship of trading! Last year, cars were swapping hands like crazy, and guys were helping each other do three party swaps left and right! Even Raffle Prizes and Goody Bag cars were being traded as soon as they were handed over! Show and Tell! Got a special Johnny, or project? Bring it! We want you to show off your best stuff from your collections and make every one's mouth water as they "Ooooooooo" and "Aaaaaaahhh" with envy! Tables will be available to lay your stuff out on. Your host - Dave Antonelli - will gladly give tours of one of the most awesome diecast collections you will ever see! (Dave, you really oughta charge a separate admission for that "Museum" of a basement!) Vendors! Last year we had two great vendors, and this year may bring even more. There will be older, now "hard to find" Johnnie's, as well as the very latest releases that maybe you aren't finding in your area. And last but not least - FOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Last year, Dave and Janet put out a very nice little "spread", and no one went home hungry. This year, Jan has vowed to ratchet it up a notch and keep all of us well fed. (Yes, Mark, there will also be plenty of Hot Dogs  ) The party starts at 10AM (or earlier, if you bring the donuts!) and runs 'till whenever (literally; Dave and Jan played host to some of us until after 11 that night!). The address won't be posted here - to keep a certain measure of "control" - but everyone is welcome and you'll receive an address and directions via PM. Lurkers, we want you to come in from out of the shadows as well. My e-mail address is below. Families: This is meant to be a "Family" event, meaning kids (and wives!) are welcomed! Last year we had several of them, and they actually added quite a bit to the fun. We'll have plenty of activities for the kids to keep them busy, and of course Dave has that great swimming pool right there in the backyard, so pack their bathing suits! Wives are welcome to keep Jan company as well. Last note: while last year's "Jam" was a free "no charge" event, the costs incurred in these gigs is staggering. To offset the expenses of an even bigger event this year, we decided we needed to charge a nominal admission of $15, payable in advance or at the Jam. There will be no charge for kids, spouses/"significant others", etc. The admission gets you the Goody Bag chock full of die-cast cars, Door Prize raffle ticket, and special "Event" car, activities, as well as all the food you can handle. Any leftover funds (should there be any) will be put into a kitty for next year's "Jam". We ran this by several members, and all agreed that it was both necessary, and reasonable. We hope you will agree. Heck, I'm paying, myself! That said, however, we don't want the fee to keep anyone from attending. What else ......??? ACCOMMODATIONS:With a full day of activities, and so much else going on in this scenic area, we are suggesting that folks make plans to stay in the area for a bit. For those seeking accommodations, while Newport is close to North Kingstown and there are several motels, hotels, and quaint little Bed & Breakfasts throughout the area, there are also plenty of more “economical” venues just up the road a bit in Warwick, RI (near TF Green Airport), so please come and spend a weekend if possible; it will be well worth it! Links for accommodations are below: Newport Hotels: http://www.newportchamber.com/searchdir1.a...=Motels&place=2 Newport B&B's: http://www.newportinns.com/newport_inns_be..._breakfasts.asp http://www.newportchamber.com/searchdir1.a...akfasts&place=5 Warwick Hotels: http://travel.yahoo.com/p-hotel-479182-war...0x.10g1Nbj_T2oL Last year's "Jam" was a true bash, and an awful lot of fun; well worth the drive to meet so many other board members and die-cast lovers. We hope you will decide to make it this year. Even better, maybe you could "carpool" with other board members who live along the route! (Makes it a bit more affordable by spreading out the gas $$$, and makes the drive even more fun!) So, start making plans, arranging schedules, making phone calls; Johnny Jam '07 will be here before you know it, and you'll definitely want to be a part of it! If you are coming, please let us know either here on this thread, or by the e-mail address below, so we can prepare for all of you. This is the Great Procrastinator telling you: "don't procrastinate!!!!" For confirmation or for questions, please contact me (Rich) at: rjmcdermott@verizon.net Now get ready, 'cause WE BE JAMMIN', MON!!!!!!!!! :hat:

Is Miss Kelly available for a date, Dad? On a more serious note, anyone else going to (or involved with) Jam interested in going? |

Who all is headed to Jam from Central PA? I am sure we can car pool again this year. I am 99% sure that Mandy and Maddy are not attending this year. Mandy is taking off too many other Saturdays this summer and this weekend did not make the cut. |
