Johnny Jam: Time to get off the fence and CONFIRM!

Okay, we first posted about Jam 60 days early, to give you plenty of time to arrange schedules. It is now close to 30 days to the event.

It’s time to commit!

We (the JJ staff) can’t imagine why any Johnny Lightning lover within a 1-3 hour driving time would not be ALL OVER this thing, and drag along any JL collector they know along the way. For those who can’t make it to Fest due to distance or expenses, this is the next biggest Johnny Lightning event you will see this year!

You will have the chance to finally meet so many of the people behind the names you see on the boards all the time, shoot the breeze, and enjoy the camaraderie of so many fun people you may never have the chance to meet anywhere else.

If that’s not enough, we have:

Goody Bags: with six – possibly seven! – diecast 1/64 cars from various brands. No two bags are the same, and the contents of those bags alone makes for some neat trading!

Customized “Event” car: the event car this year is going to be something else! Start with a beautiful looking, well detailed car; packaged in a beautiful “leave-as- it- is or take- it- out- in- it’s- enclosed- display case” blister; then send it out for a professionally applied, JL board member designed logo (nobody this year can mock the Johnny Jam event car as “amateur”!).

Door Prizes: several of us have given the very best of our collections - I myself had had a terrific White Lightning year, and it will benefit every single one of you (where else are you going to have a shot at winning a Dukes of Hazard “Dirty” Gen. Lee White Lightning???). board members across the country are donating cars to the booty as well, and I can’t even begin to talk about the companies stepping up with cool donations of their own (Okay, let me just say that there will be a Green Machine or two there…. and a nice little package from SpecCast just arrived – rhymes with “brawler”, and don’t let your Hot Dog “roll-off” the table!). Plus we are working on some super cool, “I can’t believe they did that!” stuff. You can’t win if you don’t come!

Trading: Some of the best, “World Class”, fast and furious, “you’re looking for WHAT? I saw one over there!”, multi-party, “let’s make this deal happen!” trading. If you need one, it’s very likely going to be there (or maybe even in Dave Antonelli’s collection/museum)

Show & Tell: Bring along your most favorite, special, unique, rare, unusual, valuable things; show us all what you’ve got, and make us all green with envy as we “Oooooo” and “Aaahhhhh”

Activities:
Customizing 101 seminars (tampo removal; wheel swaps; Zingerizing/De-Zingerizing). When you leave here, there’ll be a whole new crop of customizers no longer afraid to crack open a blister and bust out the tools!

Customizing contest: We will shortly announce a Johnny Lightning Customizing Contest for the event, with prizes for the two different categories; Mild and Wild.

Racing: Pro/Am classes for “just for fun” or “down n’ dirty”; we will have a very nice Thunder Jet 500 slot car track and Gravity track set up (we’ll supply the “fun” Amateur class cars, the “pro’s” will no doubt run what they brung!). Prizes are being arranged for both classes in both types of racing.

Diecast hobby seminars: we are arranging simple, fun “talks” about the recent developments in the diecast hobby, and its future; as well as a couple of other fun subjects. We have some very knowledgeable people in our locale who can keep you entertained through the “dining” portion of the day.

And much, much more!!!!!!

Can’t deal with the cost of gas to Jam, or don’t want to make a 3-4 hour drive alone??? We’ve set up a “Carpool” thread on one board for those that need a passenger to share the gas and the company, or for those looking for a ride in:

http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/showthread.php?t=187315

Need to spend time with the kids? Bring them! Kids are free at Johnny Jam, and get a free Junior Goody Bag, with a free Junior Door Prize raffle, and have their own schedule of fun activities. If that’s not enough, pack a towel and a bathing suit; Dave’s got a nice above-ground pool!

The wife/girlfriend/significant other is not crazy about you leaving for the day, or being dragged along to this crazy thing? Not a problem! First, there are several women coming to make sure Dave’s wonderful wife Jan has some company; and even better, the Jam is a quick 10 minute drive from beautiful Newport RI, with it’s fun shops, beautiful mansions, beaches, and lovely restaurants. We will be happy to provide them with simple driving directions to get around this simple little town, and my girlfriend Lucy will actually be working AT one of the fabled Mansions that day and will gladly provide tours of that house. Also nearby, as we mentioned in another post, is the annual “Blessing of the Fleet” in the nearby fishing town of Narragansett/Galilee. Better yet, take the kids on a “Whale Watch” cruise out of that very same town! (Diecast cars and Whales, what can be better than that???).

Here are some links to those activities:

Again, after Jam, you can take her to a great nearby concert featuring Denny Laine (from the Moody Blues) and Eric Burden and the Animals, plus Ian Mitchell (from the Bay City Rollers)

If you really want to come, guys, we’re giving you all the tools to “work it”!!!!!

All that said, I would like this thread to be just a place for confirmations only. Please guys, don’t clutter it up with “boy, I wish I could make it, but I’m just too far” posts, so we can have a simple, easy way to track who is intending to come. Thanks.

Lastly, "Lurkers" .
We know you're out there, guys, and you are in the New England area..... you may not officially "belong" to any of these JL "boards", but you are Johnny Lightning lovers none the less, and you are welcome as well! While you can't post your confirmation here, or by PM, you can send word by regular e-mail to me at: rjmcdermott@verizon.net Come meet these guys, and be a part of this as well!

The Jam has an entry fee this year of just $15, to cover the costs of the food, supplies, Goody Bags, Door Prizes, etc., and I can tell you, folks, you will leave feeling you definitely got your money’s worth! You can pay in advance (PM me for an address to send it to) or pay at the door; just please let us know if you’re coming, so we have enough of everything to handle the turnout.

It’s the biggest “closest” Johnny Lightning event you will see this year; BE A PART OF IT!

Johnny Jam, if you can !!!!!!

Rich,

doesn't look good for me. I'm still holding out some hope, but it doesn't look like we can make it this year. :(
