JL Classic Gold 1950 Oldsmobile

I just received my 50 Olds from Classic Gold rel#37. I love these old cars and JL does them up very nice.

Looking at the picture inside the clear plastic protective cover, I noticed that the car in the picture is a 4-door car, while the diecast is a 2-door car. Also, the car in the picture has the same front end as the diecast car, but that's where the similarity ends. The car in the picture has a totally different side design, as though it was an Olds from a different year or a totally different Olds model. Anyone else notice this stuff?

Someone had mentioned that this Olds looks like the Olds from a recent Coke release, minus the tampos. Looking at them side by side, the colors, while very similar, are in fact different. Also, the roof on the CG Olds is dark green, rather than being the same color as the Coke car.

The worst thing about this car is the way the axle sticks out of the wheel...a step in the wrong direction for JL.

Picture borrowed from Milezone's Toys...a great place to buy JL online.

Did you read the back of the card? After a recent discussion, I found it quite interesting. ;)

The 'first muscle car'...who knew. And it dominated the Nascar circuit...who knew.
It's an interesting read.

It preceeded the GTO by 14 years and the 300C (That Chrysler is advertising) by 5 years.

Nice casting, but terrible with the axle sticking out through the wheel.

I have the light yellow one but the Coke version eluded me. It looks like it would look great detampoed! Recently took delivery of the mint green one from Classic Gold, release 37. The color combo is very nice. :)
I agree with STUTZ, the protruding axles take away from the overall look of this casting.

Now THAT looks nice in green - and it seems as though the two-door and four-door models had different styling that year ? ! ? ! - or perhaps the car pictured is actually a 98 which did look like that from the side (I have a photo in a book).

I would not call it a "muscle car" although its relatively high compression V8 and relatively "light" weight made it rather fast for a production car of its day. The Olds 88 had a general good reputation and is one of my favorite 50s cars.

The Mustang II is a Mustang too!
Another winner, and another one I picked up at Hershey. I do have to agree about the axles- not a good look for the car. That said, the color is absolutely gorgeous and looks right!
