Does anybody else here have any of these?

I got the lot a few weeks ago for £12. They are nice models, but strangely for JL models, most of them are way too big instead of being too small, a problem that I have with them. They are actually closer in size to 1:43 models than 1:64 models!

I had them. I also had White Lightnings of the cars, which were hard to get rid of.

They were at a Dollar store for $1 several years ago. I only kept the Jaguar. I liked it the best.

I have all those and I have them on display. I agree they are larger than they ought to be, but I have yet to see another company make these car models, and sell them in my area. I like them. I know many people don't care for them because they're not 'muscle' or because of the size. But to me, they represent classic, old sports cars in my collection.
Now if only JL would make a Morgan, MG TD,...

I have one of each in my collection as well. Mainly because I wanted a representative of each car- other than the Sunbeam and Jaguar (both of which I have more than one example of), the rest are way too big and I eagerly await someone else to make them in a true 1/64.

And a Morgan, MG TD (and TC!) sound good to me too!

I have the Jag, Sunbeam, and MGB. I passed on the Triumph and Bug Eye because they were unbelievably large. I've also seen much better detailed Bug Eyes...this one was a disappointment to me.

I agree, it is nice to see models that haven't been done before by any other manufacturer.

It's quite strange for JL though as they only usually produce U.S muscle from the same era.

I have a couple of them. Sounds a little like a broken record, but I agree - I'd have them all if they weren't so big compared to "normal" JL's.

It was an experiment- unfortunately they didn't sell (because of the size!) well, so JL continued to focus on muscle cars and VWs. Likewise, the next time JL tried imports (Import Heat) they chose to do riced out tuners, and once again they didn't sell. So JL sticks to their comfort zone...

Had JL marketed these cars to the actual owners of British sports cars they would have sold many many more. I bought about 150 of these at prices ranging from $1.00 each to $2.25 each. I sold all by 15 at Vintage Race events for $8.00 each and some harder to find cars at $10.00 each. Not White Lightnings. Most of the buyers had never seen them before, and were thrilled to get anything even close to their actual cars. I have a list of people who I have to contact if I can find any more.

There are close to 100 different Vintage Car clubs in Vintage Motorsports magazines who could have been contacted to see if they wanted "Your Car is the Star" type promotions made. It was suggested to both JL and some of the clubs but nothing was ever followed through. ( I guess ).

Likewise, the various tampoed series' would go faster if the people who collect the various entertainment themes know about them. If they want to sell Saturday Evening Post cars they need to market cars to SEP fans, and not market SEP to car fans...

I have some of them.
Here are some very recent images of a few of the JL E-Type Jaguars

I also have copies of some of the other castings.
I happened to like them.
They were hard to source for me.

I have the entire set plus a few duplicates that I got in one of my many huge lot e-bay buys early on in my JL buying history. After seeing AC's pics I may have to free a couple and check them out more closely.

Nick, check out the engine in the Jag.
Also note which side that you will find the steering wheel.
Very British (and Australian, too).
The MGAs are a nice casting.

The big problem with these castings is the scale in comparison to many other JL castings. Check out the size of the Sprite.
It is huge in comparison to some of the castings in the releases.

1967 Sunbeam Alpine

This is another nice casting.

This was a very hard casting to find for me.
Actually that whole set was hard to find any castings from the release.

The Sunbeam and E-Type are very easily the nicest cars of the bunch- while I do have at ;east one of each, I passed on picking up color variants on the other four due to their size. They'd have sold much better if they were smaller...

They kinda made some lame British cars...an Elise or Bentley wouldn't have hurt.

You're kidding, right? Those are all classic British cars. Lame, no way.

True, JL did make them not in scale with their other cars, but they are still fine representations of 'classic' British cars. They fit nicely in a Giovanni car case, and as long as you don't try and do a true scale test on one car versus another, they display very well. I have most of the Jl British cars, in most of the colors offered and I never once regretted buying them.

Well, the E-Type belongs, but aren't the rest of these know more for leaking oil all over the road than anything? :P Unless they just had to stick with this time period, then it's a good selection.

I believe they were sticking to this time period. I do agree with AQUA XK8 that these are all worthy candidates for casting.

Had this series done better, I'd have loved to have seen an MG TC, Morgan, Bristol 412 (truly any Bristol, honestly!), and a Lotus Seven (see the Caterham below).

Newer British sports cars that come to mind would be the Bristol Fighter, Caterham 7, Lotus Excel, TVR Cerbera, De Lorean DMC-12, and a Jaguar XK8 coupe.

For non-sports models, a P4 ("Auntie") Rover, Rover SD1, Rover P5, Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud, Daimler DS420 limo and hearse, Austin A110 Westminster, any Bentley, an original Mini, Morris Minor, and lots of others. The problem with these selections is aside from the Rolls-Royce and the Mini, they're relatively unknown in the USA (JL's home market). Maybe one of the British firms will get around to doing 1/64 British cars instead of the new 1/76 scale?

They are all decent castings, but all of them except for the E-Type and Sunbeam are way too big.

It would have been nice to see JL do more British cars in 1:64 but there clearly wasn't enough interest in the home market. They may have done better by exporting them to England, if the price was right. You do get some shops here that stock the odd JL, but most charge around £5 per model, which wouldn't go down to well with collectors. The other problem is that most serious collectors here only go for 1:43 Corgis and Dinkys (not me though).

I have some of these but not many. I would have liked them better if they'd been more to scale instead of ginormous.

Support your local demo derby.

I have an Austin Healy that JL released in a different series. It's a decent casting so long as you overlook the scale. British roadsters are under represented but I don't think JL is neccessarily the best to pull them off. I think MB with a more international audience would be better suited to do these type of cars but you do have to give props to JL for trying.

Matchbox would definitely be a good candidate- and they've done a few over the years. But since Matchbox doesn't do different series', and their tooling budget is limited to about 20 new tools a year, it's unlikely we'll see this happen unless one trickles in every year or so.

What Britain needs is their own home market JL. The new Corgi wouldn't be a bad choice to do something like this either. Or in a few years time as Matchbox continues their expansion, perhaps some ROW (rest of world) exclusive new castings?
