The Mustang II is a Mustang too!

Brand: MotorMax (Fresh Cherries)
Models: 1982 Plymouth Reliant K & 1982 Dodge Aries K
Scale: 1/64
Year of Release: 2008
Price: $2.47 each

The only previous K-Cars done in 1/64 were Hot Wheels with an Aries wagon in '81 and Road Champs with a LeBaron convertible (which was copied by a few companies). None of which are currently available.

Let's start with the positives:

1. As they have from the inception of their Fresh Cherries line, MotorMax has picked some very unique cars to cast. No one's done a four door sedan K-Car before.

2. Accurate castings. These are scaled very well with the real car- my Grandpa's owned two of them. One was even this color:

3. The paint is getting better. One of my early complaints about Fresh Cherries was that their paint was too bright and too shiny. These are much closer, and the metalflakes are awesome. The burgandy and tan cars are the same colors I remember the bulk of these cars coming in.

4. $2.47 price point is still very attractive!

The negatives:

1. Not really sure about the green color on this one:

2. The grill and headlight inserts do not work well together. Two of the cars (see the above picture) have loose headlights. While the grill inserts and seperate lights are an awesome touch, the fit and finish needs a little work.

Design/Concept: 10
Unique Factor: 10
Paint: 9
Detail: 8
Collectivity: 7
Casting Accuracy/Quality: 8
Overall: 8.67

Final rating:

Every collection needs a K-Car!

Dodge's green was a "Sea Foam" green color, And these are awesome castings and very realistic. I had a Dodge Aires, and whilst it had problems with keeping a timing chain in it, The last one broke 50 miles from my inlaws at 5 pm on Christmas Eve, Me my wife, 2 young children and all Santas gifts stranded, pretty well in the middle of nowhere. Not a pretty site.

Oh well now we can laugh about it, well I laugh, its still a tender spot with my wife.

Still from a decade that I think is best forgotten for the most part :P

The M3 did come out of the 80s though :D

Heh, I like a lot of '80s cars, but I'm weird that way.

Besides, K-Cars, Diplomats, etc. make good junk cars for my monster truck layout. So not only am I picking these up for my collection, and a few for customs, I'm even grabbing some for that purpose. These cars have lots of uses for me.

Haha yeah. That and I can appreciate any car from that decade or older that's in pristine condition.

I realize that it was probably more the gas crisis' fault than anything else, too.

Support your local demo derby.

I think Motormax has really tapped into a market that otherwise has been fully ignored. I plan on buying these when ever I see them. On a side note for Sean, K-cars make really good compact derby cars. Thanks for the pics and info Sean.

I was thinking that too! I almost ended up derbying my Grandpa's last K-Car when he got his Neon. But he sold it instead...
