I was digging through some more boxes and found this JL casting I had forgotten all about... This was a really cool casting of the new style Pontiac GTO... I don't know of any other brand that did this casting... I know when this was released, it did not have much love from JL collectors, myself included. Now after looking at it again, this is about the best color/wheel combo that JL did with this casting. Details and the paint do look really good. Too bad the actual 1:1 car didn't do better as many were heavily discounted and sold at reasonable prices considering the engine that came with them. 6.0 liter and 400 horses for the price that some of these went for were good deals for those looking for a high output rear wheel drive V8 !!!![]()

Now StangFreak is stealing my words from another forum. I know my words and thoughts are worth their weight in gold, but we can still all share.

While the 1:1 might be a good performer, it's styling is bland. A GTO should look fast and cool. While heading out to that toy store Saturday, a nice '67 GTO passed me in the opposite direction - pale red w/ a white top - not mint, but in very good shape. |

Oh yea Craftymore... Was very well written and I really liked the way you worded it all... Just wanted to share your words with everyone... I really loved the GTO and I thought it got a bum deal somehow... I didn't know they were sold at discount rates or anything like that... I do know they performed very well on the street as well as the strip... |

The Mustang II is a Mustang too!

A nice casting of a bland looking car. Unfortunately, the reason this car didn't sell was the bland jelly bean styling, not the performance which was more than adequate. I have a couple of versions of this car, and I'll grab the orange one currently on the pegs eventually. |

The '04 GTO is one of my favourite castings. The GTO is a rebadged version of the Australian car, the Holden Monaro. It was sold over here as the Vauxhall Monaro, and the the motoring journalists loved it (me included). But the 5.7 litre engine was a bit much for us considering how much we pay for petrol, so it wasn't much of a success here. In four years, I have seen two! |

I loved the Holden, but somehow the brand that wants to make itself the car for car people took all the fun out of it. |

I know the styling of this GTO wasn't the best... With the restyled Mustangs, Challangers, and the Camaros, all to look like the old school, you think GM could have designed it to look something like the 67 GTOs... I just have always liked the GTO and carried a huge amount of respect for that car... I got to say I was sure dissapointed in the 04 styling... I think Swifty said it best "Jelly bean style" LOL... I was sure impressed with their performance... One came up next to me at a stop light when I still had my 82 Stang... He pulled a nice hole shot on me... I caught him and passed him, but He gave me a great run... My 82 Stang turned 11:60s to 11:70s in the quarter mile, but that GTO was right there !!! |

the '04 was actually 350 hp, the '05-'06 years upped the hp to 400 and saw dual exhaust and hood scoops added. I'm a pontiac guy and was sad when they did this car, not much more than a rebadged Holden Monarro. They could've came up with a retro-styled GTO, like the other manufaturers are doing with camaro, mustang, challenger, etc., as stangfreak pointed out. The only plus to this car is that it was the fastest GTO ever, a stock car could run high 12s to low 13s, even with the weight (heavier than Grand Prixs by a few hundred pounds I believe). RC2 also did this car in the ERTL/Joyride lines, a slightly bigger casting. Someday I may get and change it back to a Holden.
