With the 50th running of Daytona upon us, I thought I'd post a special "five questions" thread about our individual Daytona experiences. Before you answer, please post your age, so we'll have a point of reference as to how long you've followed the race:

Age:

1) What year is your all-time favorite race?

2) What is your all-time favorite single memory (not necessarily from question#1) of the Daytona 500?

3) Who was (is?) your all-time favorite NASCAR driver?

4) What was your all-time favorite car (maybe one particular driver's car during one particular race)? [NOTE: Try posting a photo of that car by doing a Google "image" search by going to Google, typing in the year and car number, and click images at the top of the window; you guys all know how to right-click on properties, copy and paste the jpeg url, right?]

5) Did JL ever make a casting of your all-time favorite car?

6) What is your favorite JL NASCAR casting?
(Here is a link to Stock Car Legends at Wyatt's site http://www.jlcollector.com/sclr1.html )

7) Have you ever been to Daytona International Speedway (to see the race, or during a different part of the year?)?

8) What are your favorite memories if you answered "yes"?

9) What single past or present Daytona car would you most like JL to release (whether they actually have a casting for it currently or not)?

10) Who do you predict will win this year's 500?

Age: 52

1) What year is your all-time favorite race?
1979 (see below for explanation)

2) What is your all-time favorite single memory (not necessarily from question#1) of the Daytona 500?
This You Tube clip says it all!

3) Who was (is?) your all-time favorite NASCAR driver?
The King, Richard Petty

4) What was your all-time favorite car (maybe one particular driver's car during one particular race)? Pete Hamilton's 1970 winning car. A) I loved the Petty cars, the colors were my favorite, and getting a Super Blue '72 Dodge Demon 340 was the closest thing I could get to Petty Blue B) Pete Hamilton was from my original hometown of Dedham Mass.!!!

6) What is your favorite JL NASCAR casting?

7) Have you ever been to Daytona International Speedway (to see the race, or during a different part of the year?)?
Went to Daytona in June 2001, not long after Dale Sr. was killed ...... no one wanted to talk about him at all there

8) What are your favorite memories if you answered "yes"?
Sneaking my way up to the top floor of the locked tower, and snapping some pics from the 14th floor - the ESPN Luxury Box!

Getting kicked out of Daytona after having been caught just completing same (they had no idea I had been in the tower, they merely thought I was in a "no spectators" part of ther greandstand; the flagman's stand)

Meeting Smokey Yunick's son weeks after Smokey's passing, and being invited to the Press party for the release of Smokey's self published autobiography, being held the next night. Still have my "Best Dammed garage In Town" coffee mug, and use it regularly!

Working my butt off to find the one person in Daytona who actually remembered how to find the "old" track at the beach, and driving my rental car a few laps around the old course, stopping and scooping up a big bag full of sand from The Old North Turn, and presenting some of my older NASCAR loving customers with vials of it marked "Sand from Old North Turn, Daytona Beach" (I just found the other day in my basement the remnants of what I have left from that sand, and a couple of still-empty vials!)

9) What single past or present Daytona car would you most like JL to release (whether they actually have a casting for it currently or not)?

I liked Allen Kulwicki, and the fact they they had the guts to slap the Hooters name on a stock car amused me to no end

10) Who do you predict will win this year's 500?
Junior.

Thanks for the questions! :P

Rob, I appreciate that you didn't let your youth and lack of exposure stop you from answering these questions

There must be more race fans out there though; come on and answer the survey; let's hear your answers :twocents:

Eh, I was bored :P

Seriously though, I like that sort of thing. And I haven't payed attention to NASCAR in a couple of years, maybe I'll try to pick it up again. But if it's all the sausage fest it was when I dropped it, well...

And WTH is with Tony Stewart driving a Toyota? Now I really hate the guy!!

The Mustang II is a Mustang too!
I gave up on NASCAR after the travesty that was "The Chase" in 2004. NASCAR wasn't broken, but they "fixed" it. Now it's nice and broken. And I haven't watched a race in years. I have no plans to ever again. All of my favorite drivers are retired or should have retired years ago and saved their dignity. And I can't stand any of these Young Guns so what's the point anyway?

Besides, banger racing makes NASCAR look like a Sunday drive anyway! ;)
