James, I never said that I didn't like many of the JL AMC castings. In fact I do like many of them. The new copper coloured AMC AMX with the "Real Wheels"TM tires is a beauty. I just got that casting recently. The Gremlin is another JL casting that I happen to like. Here is another AMC favourite that I have in my collection. ![]() ![]() And there are many other JL AMC castings that I do like and have in my collection. All I said was that I didn't care for the Pacer. That's my opinion and no one elses. Cheers. Cobra |

I know AC, just your opinion and its mine that I like it, I respect your opinion, and if I had a spare one I'd RAOK you with it.
. The paint scheme is a little funky and I was surfing the AMC Pacer sites the other night and never could find that paint scheme, strange eh? and the blue stripe over the roof makes it look even more like a basket then it is (was) But Kudos to JL for even attempting to make this, and next time you see it, take a real close look at it, is is a cute little thing, and IMHO your absolutely right about the Javelin, every one of JL's Jav's are exquisite. and the black one in your pic, is one awesome beast. I have always loved the Javelin, when I was young a friend of mine's older brother had a red white and blue one, what a cop magnet as it was the only one in town. They didn't even need to stop him, just went to his house the next day and gave him the tickets. But we sure had fun in it when he would take us out on Sunday afternoons to the ice cream shop and then do donuts in the shopping mall parking lot. Oh the days when the mall was closed on Sundays and the local car enthusiasts would hang out, of coarse now they would put the run to them anyway. I am thinking on branching out, and AMC might be where I am heading. Lovethat Copper AMX, and the Cherries stuff is really nice, for the Matador, maybe JL would do up a Matador too. Love to find a Rambler. Cheers |

I don't think that JL has done the Matador but they did do the Hornet. I have this one in my collection. I think that it came from California if my memory serves me right. I think that I also have a red coloured version somewhere. ![]() ![]() I think that this was the first '69 AMC AMX in my collection. I bought it because I had remembered seeing this particular colour version on a real 1:1 on a show on television and the colour stuck in my mind. Strange how those things work sometimes. Images courtesy of JLCollector.com. Thanks Wyatt. Maybe we had better get back to the original topic discussion. Cheers. Cobra |

Thanks, James and I go back for a ways in collecting JLs. We know each other from other places. So it's all friendly discussion. I want to see some images of the chrome Hudson Hornet. Cheers. Cobra |

And we did get around to talking about another Hornet! Amc's that is. All we have seen up close is the Dude's upside down views of the Hornet, lets see some chrome side up pics pretty please.

Speaking of the Dude, I wish he'd start posting here again. He goes by JL_1966_Mustang here but hasn't logged in for a long time.

Quality's an issue. A big one. I recently bought the blue Vega off the pegs. Pretty car! I got it home, and noticed that on the front end, one side of the axle's substantially higher than the other, so that, effectively, the car rides on three wheels. Now, most of the first and second issue '65 Impalas have this malady on a much lesser scale; the car's merely higher on one side than the other. I'm paying $3-$4 for this? I've gotten a lot of stuff like this over the years now. Hoods that don't close all the way (like on the Javelin...on SEVERAL of my Javelins), wheels that have fallen off, and detail issues on one model in particular that patently didn't exist at all! Matchbox, since the Coyne/Holst era began, haven't given me half the grief, and for one third of the price. Not good. |

I've gotten a Skyline with that problem too. I've also got more than a few JLs with minor and major paint imperfections straight out of the blister/clamshell. |

The hood not closing has been a huge thorn in my side. In the images of the dark green Javelin shown elsewhere in this post is a prime example of a casting with a major hood closing problem. The copper coloured version of that casting was even worse. On that casting in particular, I must have opened and cloesed the hood several hundred times BEFORE I got it to close properly. I have a simple method when addressing these problems. I leave the culprit casting sitting on my desk beside my computer and when will manipulate the hood up and down while reading various posts. It may take a few days (weeks?) to fix the problem but it usually works. Another major issue that I have with many of the newer (in the last year or two) castings is the small paint chip problem. You open the fresh blister and take out the casting to discover tiny little paint chips. To me, this should not be acceptable or allowed from a quality control aspect. And then there is the paint quality issue itself. I will just leave that subject for now, as it is another one that doesn't make me happy for a $5.00 + casting. This was my oportunity to vent for a few brief moments. Thanks. Cheers. Cobra |

I'll post some pics of the hornet once it arrives. Although, being the first plastic based JL, I'm not sure if I should open it??? My biggest problem with quality was early last year, and it concerned the three-legged dogs--or one wheel jammed up into the wheel base issue. I've been pretty lucky lately, and got some very good quality stuff. Being a fan of police cars, the RT Desoto has sat next to me at my desk since I got it. And what a little beauty it is!!! PERFECT in every aspect. I get a thrill whenever I look at it. Which is really what this hobby is all about, the simple joy. |

I've had a lot of paint quality issues from JL lately, and let's not forget my three legged dog Beetle that was car of the day on Valentine's Day. I don't have these kind of problems from other brands...just JL. |

Is that because Johnny Lightning uses a different type of axle design than other manufacturers? I've never had a diecast apart, so I don't know. As for paint, stance and other issues. I've gotten quite a bit of all lately. I've learned to deal with it, but the one I hate the most is the ones with messed up axles. I haven't gotten a single car from Greenlight with this issue and I buy just about all of them that come out now, but with JL it seems like I get screwed up alxe in about every other shipment. That goes for hoods that don't close, defects in paint, etc, etc. I even got a Coke Holiday '40 Ford P/U one time that the dash and steering wheel had gotten all twisted up and the funny thing, the blister had a circle around the problem and all kinds of Chinese characters written on the package. How that made it out of the factory I have no clue. Someone was actually doing his job and it went out anyway!

I think I opened it, but if I didn't it's buried in one of the 150 boxes of diecast cars I have.

Eh, I liberated a JL Import Heat Honda on a prototype blisterpack to banger it. Ask CenterShock, Bray, or Carnut- they were all present when I did it.

Made fun of me since I didn't notice it was a prototype before liberating it.
