Today's car of the day is Yat Ming's Adams Probe 16.

The Imp Site

Dennis (designer) and Peter (engineer) Adams were, prior to Probe 16, well established with respect to 'futuristic' car construction, based on their contributions to the design and racing success of the Marcos car series.

Of the three Probe 16s built, the first was sold to famous American songwriter Jim Webb and is believed to have been burnt quite early. The second Probe 16 (AB/3) was completed in 1969 and exhibited in the 1969 London Motor Show. With the intention to initiate a British Styling showpiece stand at the '69 Motor Show, the Daily Telegraph Magazine cooperated with the Institute of British Carriage and Automobile Manufacturers to show the Probe 16 on the IBCAM stand – where it obtained a tremendous reception and won the design award as the best British styling exercise.

What can I say? This is a truly unique little diecast. Corgi did a Whizzwheels version of the Probe 16 as well. The hard part is looking at the toy and imagining that there really is a car that looks like that!

The real Probe 16 would likely be forgotten today if not for the fact that one of the three prototypes was used as the "Durango 95" in the movie "A Clockwork Orange".

I think the movie Clockwork Orange is the only place where I even saw this car and even then had no idea as to the orgins of it. That movie will forever change your view of the song"Singing in The Rain." Rape, violence, and Beethoven is not the way to go.

As for the casting, it looks a bit crude with the sides of the car looking uneven. Looks like they just made the entire top plastic instead of incorporating the small amount of roof supports. I guess with such as small original price this most likely had, that is a mute point. Yoy do have to give props to yatming for choosing a model back in the day that others would not do.

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
Yet another good lesson about a strange auto, along with an unusual selection for a diecast company. Good stuff, Swifty!

So true! It makes for an interesting diecast, but the 1:1 would never make into my dream garage.

One of the most bizarre real world cars, there are Hot Wheels fantasy models that look more realistic than this real life model.

I would have never thought this was an actual car. I've seen this casting before, I've always thought it was a fantasy car

In a semi-sort of kit car kind of way it reminds me of the Bradley GT.

Not sure why but the Adams Probe always made me think of the Get Smart TV show - again, really have no idea why other than they were a bit quirky and the car is on that wonderful quirky side.

Very cool. I have a Corgi, but I’ve never seen this one.
