I have found two versions of this new casting by JL... To be quite honest, I am just a little dissapointed with both of these cars... They don't seem to fit together real well and the wheels are pretty funky... Cool looking cars though !!!

The Mustang II is a Mustang too!

The reason for the poor quality is this was originally a Racing Champions casting. They've JL-fied it (just like the '77 AMC Pacer, '87 Buick Regal/Grand National, Hudson Hornet, '69 Mercury Cougar, and others) but all that does is make the casting look worse than the original. Especially on the Pacer and Cougar- both of which look much better in their original unmolested states in the Racing Champions and ERTL American Muscle lines respectively. That said, the Thunderbolt is one of the nicest of those transitions, and the paint schemes are better than Racing Champions gave them originally.

I've got the old versions (before they were JLified)!. I agree with Sean, these looked nicer as they were. That being said, they have cool paint jobs & if you don't look too close, they are pretty sweet! |

Do you have the ERTL American Muscle Cougar, out of curiosity. I have a couple but they're buried, so I can't compare that one with the new JL version of the same casting. But the JL looks way off to my eyes, and I have a hard time believing it was once the awesome ERTL casting. I just hope the original Racing Champions/ERTL molds were not destroyed in the manufacturing of these new JLs... |

The Thunderbolt used to be 1/64th Ertl American Muscle line casting. The trunk used to open. |

It's also turned into a massive pegwarmer here. We have two 1/64s at Wal*Mart (out of five cars total) and five 1/24s (also out of five cars total). I think it's because of the color green... At least I hope that's the reason why. |
