Today's car of the day is Majorette's '77 Lancia Montecarlo.

Wikipedia

The Lancia Montecarlo was a mid-engined sports car sold in the 1970s and very early 1980s. The vehicle was named "Montecarlo" (spelt all one word) not Monte Carlo (the capital of Monaco). A low-power version, the Scorpion, was sold in the United States at the same time. Spider versions of the Montecarlo featured a unique roll-back manually operated targa style convertible top.

Based on the prototype Abarth 030, the car was known as the X1/8 (later the X1/20) while in development, and was intended to be a Fiat-branded 'big brother' to the Fiat X1/9. It had a similar mid-engined layout, with a larger engine and roomier interior.

The car was passed to Lancia, and was constructed by Pininfarina, the original design company, in Turin, Italy. Production lasted from 1975 through 1979 for the first series (S1), with a second version (S2) launched in 1980. Production of the Montecarlo ended in 1981.

While this model has no opening features, the half open sunroof is a nice touch.

A Lancia Scorpion also appeared in Disney's Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo (1977) as Herbie's "girlfriend" Giselle.

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
That looks like a pretty nice casting, and with a better paint job (ditch those billboard letters) it would look great.

Is that ORANGE glass I see??? :beatit:

Uhhh...it's plexiglass and it's yellowed from being in the sun too long. Like the occasional HW package

Support your local demo derby.

Great looking casting of a "Montecarlo." The wipers on the front glass is a trademark of majorette and the opening sunroof is rare in diecast. Great choice Swifty! :P

Excellent comment, CRAFTYMORE, as I can't think of any other 1/64 size diecast with an opening sunroof! :) :)

The Matchbox Rover SD1 is another and I'm pretty sure there are more than just these too.

Muscle Car
There are several companies that made sliding sunroof pieces (Majorette's Renault 11 is another company example), but as for opening upward, for ventilation, I'm sure there are others, but I'm struggling to come up with another on the spot.

How common are the wheels on this for Majorette? I've never seen these wheels before, but I did get an orange RX-7 from Siniweb that has these wheels. If anyone knows how common (or uncommon) these wheels are, feel free to let me know!

Siku also made a Ford 17M with a slide back opening sunroof. First made in 64 thru 66.

Very nice. I’m a big fan of Lancia. This goes well with the 037.
