Today's car of the day is Topper Johnny Lightning's Jaguar XKE. This example has been restored by Velocity Arts.

Wikipedia

The Jaguar E-type or XK-E is an automobile manufactured by Jaguar between 1961 and 1974. The E-type revolutionized sports car design, with performance, handling and looks ahead of its time. It was priced well below competing models, helping it to high sales for a high performance car. In excess of 70,000 E-types were sold over 14 years.

It is often referred to as the E-Type Jag.

In March 2008, the Jaguar E-type ranked first in Daily Telegraph list of the "100 most beautiful cars" of all time. In 2004, Sports Car International named this car number one on the list of Top Sports Cars of the 1960s.

Support your local demo derby.

I think in the context of the time frame this came out, this was and still is a great looking casting with an awesome paint job. If you can look past the wheels, this is a great casting.

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
You all know I'm not very agreeable to desecrating works of art, like the E-type.
Allowing the time period it was done, and the age of the people it was intended for purchase, I'll look the other way and hold my nose. :(
It won't beat some other cars in the CotW, anyway.

I'll also give them a few points for 1. Not adding a blown engine going through the hood, and 2. Not using orange or red glass.

Open Door! Big points for that alone...this casting is typically found with sealed doors. So definitely worth saving, and the resto work looks appropriate.

I have a couple of the latter-day repros of this car. Seeing it with an open door in the photo above startled me! Even though I'm a huge fan of the E-Type I'm really not too taken with this model because of the proportions, the heavy-appearing chassis hanging down below the doors, and the way they cut a hood into the clamshell. Matchbox did it W-A-Y better, but there's no doubt that the JL version would outrun the Lesney on any track if it's axles weren't bent (and probably even if they were!).
