Today's Car of the Day is Hot Wheels' EP3 Honda Civic Si. EP3 is just a Honda chassis code denoting the hatchback Civic made from 2001-2005. I realize the graphics say Type R, but the FE was an Si and they didn't change the casting so Si it is

Comon, anyone who's looked at my sig had to see this one coming!

In 2002, the Civic Si received a complete redesign and returned to form as a hatchback. The body shape of this model was based on the "New Bullet-Form" concept, which aimed to create a more dynamic look and provide greater stability while traveling on highways or winding country roads. The design was based a new platform manufactured at the Swindon plant in England, UK, and was exported around the world in many different trims. This new Civic Si adopted the K-series engine, and the K20A3 i-VTEC powerplant put down 160 hp (119 kW) at 6,500 rpm and 132 lb·ft (179 N·m) of torque at 5,000 rpm. Performance was relatively underwhelming compared to the competition at the time and its predecessor; the switch to MacPherson struts from double-wishbone suspension gave the car a less sporting character, and a near-150 lb increase in weight to 2,744 lb contributed to a 0-60 time of approximately 7.5 seconds. Nevertheless, this Civic Si saw about the same performance numbers as the previous generation Si, with 7.5 seconds to 60 mph and 15.8 seconds at the quarter mile. Other factors adversely impacting performance included the lack of an LSD (limited slip differential) and having to shift into third gear to get to 60. First gear ends at about 30, second ends at 55, and third ends at 82 mph (132 km/h). The car has a 6,850 rpm redline with a 7,100 rpm cutoff.

A bit of interesting trivia for ya; for this generation of Civic, the only hatchback versions sold in North America were Sis. Here's my other examples of the casting.

I would love to be able to track my Civic someday, and I wouldn't mind a bit if it ended up looking something like the Hot Wheels version.

I'd agree with that. Pretty good casting for a HW. When I was in High School, this car came out and all of my rice racer buddies wanted this car more than anything at the time. Actually compared to some of the imports now, this car seems slow at 0-60 in 7.5 seconds.

It's when you get behind the wheel and start using it that you notice why it's so great ;)

Nice ride! And don't worry about the "Type R" logo on it. At least its on a Honda. I've seen "Type R" on all kinds of cars, almost none of which are Hondas...

Sad, but true. There wasn't much difference between the Type R and Si anyway, especially cosmetically.

And Photobucket images have been restored. I don't trust them, and will be replacing them with uploaded to the forum images anyway, but tonight, these are still on Photobucket.

Cue dozens of replies of 'I can't see the pictures' tomorrow if PB removes them again. ;) Regardless, they will be brought over to the Garage specifically. Tonight though, let's consider this an experiment.
