Today's Car of the Day is Greenlight's 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429.

"How Stuff Works"

The Boss 429 was born of Ford's need to qualify 500 examples of its new racing engine for NASCAR. But instead of putting production units in the midsize Torinos it ran in stock-car racing, Ford offered the engines in its restyled '69 Mustang fastback. It was a serious mill: four-bolt mains, a forged steel crankshaft, and big-port, staggered-valve aluminum heads with crescent-shaped combustion chambers.

The '70 Boss 429 is my all-time favorite Mustang, it is a dream of mine to one day own one. Fat chance I suppose. Of course I would take the '69 as well.

I think the Greenlight version of this car is excellent, it captures the muscular lines very well. The car looks ready to tear up the strip, even in 1/64!

I think it might mean that Dennis might trade his Camaro in for a Mustang.

As noted in the comments, this was the overall weekly winner of Rob's Car Of The Day showcase ten years ago this week. It had some strong competition, but GreenLight really was one of the best in the game a decade ago. They still are, but the competition has upped the ante in the last decade.

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
I like all the Greenlight Mustangs. I buy as many as I can afford at the time I see them.

The only place I have ever seen GL at retail is TrU....and with them closing the only source I am aware of would be online. Almost all of the GL I have came from right here at Swifty's. I can't see the pics right now, but I wasn't aware the 429 Mustang was so rare (500 copies). I do remember them on the street when I was in High School, I vaguely recall a white one running around town...

It was the 1970 model that only had 500 examples made. For 1969 there were another 900 or so. Still a rare beast, they can fetch around $300k today. I'd buy one if I had that kind of money.

Nice one - it would be so nice if GL had more retail presence - majority of the ones in my collection come from on-line dealers.

An excellent thread to revisit.
One of the GL castings that I have always really liked.

Above is a Boss 429 Green Machine.

Illustrated below is a 1969 Custom Mustang Green Machine.
It should be noted that an error occurred and the Boss 302 casting was used by mistake.

Thank you for reviving the thread.
