Today's car of the day is Muky's Ferrari 308.

Wikipedia

The Pininfarina-styled 308 GTB was introduced at the Paris Motor Show in 1975 as a supplement to the odd Bertone-shaped Dino 308 GT4 and a replacement for the Dino 246. Unlike the plain GT4 2+2, the GTB was a 2-seater with aggressive lines, and has been called one of the most beautiful of all Ferraris. The targa topped 308 GTS was introduced in 1977 and was made famous on the Magnum P.I. television show. Several cars were used, a new one for each season, most being auctioned off after filming. The first was a 1979 model with chassis number 28251.

The mechanically similar 308 GT4 shared much with the original Dino, and the 308. Both sit on the same tube-frame platform, with a 92 in (2,300 mm) wheelbase for the 308 GTB (the 308 GT4 has a longer wheelbase, it is a 2+2) , and 4-wheel double wishbone independent suspension. The V8 engine is a DOHC design, with four Weber 40DCNF carburetors. European versions produced 255 hp (190 kW) at 7,000 rpm (7700 rpm redline), but American versions were down to 240 hp (178 kW) at 6,600 rpm due to emissions control devices.

A notable aspect of the early 308 GTB was that, although still built by Carrozzeria Scaglietti, the 308's bodywork was entirely made of glass-reinforced plastic (or GRP), allowing a very light weight of 1,050 kg (2,315 lb). The engine borrowed its dry-sump lubrication from Ferrari's racing experience. This lasted until June, 1977, when the 308 was switched to steel, resulting in an, alleged, 150 kg (331 lb) additional weight. However, a steel-bodied GTB only weighs 12 kg (26 lb) more that its fiberglass body counterpart. All steel versions of the 308 GTS have a conventional wet-sump engine while GTB models retained the dry sump lubrication until 1981.

The 308 models are the most common historical Ferrari models, with over 12,000 produced. However, only 712 of the first Fiberglass dry-sump version were made, which are now the most sought-after by collectors. The 308 models are embraced by Ferrari fans and critics today. In 2004, Sports Car International named this car number five on the list of Top Sports Cars of the 1970s.

Test performance, 308 GTB (GRP): Weight (kerb with 74 l fuel) 2778 lb (1260 kg), acceleration 0-100 mph 15.0s, 0-100 km/h 6.5 s, 100-200 km/h 17.8s, top speed 159 mph (256 km/h).

This is one of the few Muky castings to be completely original and not copied from a Hot Wheels Redline era casting. The casting is extremely crude, but that was a Muky trademark- even their Redline copies are much cruder than the original Hot Wheels versions.

Like Buby, Muky was based out of Argentina.

It might be a crude casting, but it is part of diecast history. The paint looks like Wally World cheap red paint.

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
That casting almost looked familiar, but I don't recall ever having a "Muky" or any other casting made in Argentina. It's not bad looking! But this once again confirms that me collecting all Ferrari's would have been fruitless, as more and more I've never seen keep popping up. I gave up that idea years ago.

Thanks, Swifty, for once again amazing me.

Was Buby and Muky pronounced Booby and Mooky? Then they should added Flooky and Goopy. Or Hokey. Soupy? ......I know, SIT DOWN, Ivan!!

HEY ZACH! Watch out on the cheapshot for Wally World paint!! I've used their paint on customs and it's as good as anyone's enamel!! They've got a few decent rattle can colors.

The paint looks pretty good for a Muky! The Redline knock-offs have some of the most godawful finishes ever...

Actually yes. On a side note, even with safe search on I don't recommend Googling "Buby".

Thanks for the pics! This one is almost the same angle, and really helps to show how poor the Muky casting is.

Evidently the current results are a far cry from the results I got the first time I Googled it years ago. That's a good thing...

Suffice it to say this one wasn't exceedingly popular the first time around. Let's see if time has helped it?

I own one of these, and this is the first time I've noticed the tail lights. They look convincing, if one didn't know what they were supposed to look like.

Ferrari’s have been my main collection since I started collecting in 2000. The switch flipped to include so many more brands when I joined here in 2014. In that time, I’ve scoured this site to try and find any Ferrari’s I didn’t know about and have added most. And four years later I’m still finding cars I never knew about. I had no idea about this one. Off to eBay I go to start searching.

This isn't the worst generic Ferrari ever, but it's still terrible.

From Argentina with uniqueness. Muky models were definitely below the quality of the ones from Buby but still when I had the opportunity years and years ago to get some Muky models I went for them - direct from Argentina. Never had this Ferrari but then have never been much of a Ferrari person. :o

I agree. After ten years, aging hasn't made it any finer, either.
I can easily pass on this one in a loose car bucket at a swap meet and not have any 2nd thoughts.

I assume that Muky and Buby were the sort of cars you could get in a 20-pack at K-Mart for 5 bucks? This one looks like it MIGHT be worth a quarter. I'll pass - I much prefer the Hot Wheels 308 I found in a grab box at the CARnival a couple of years ago at, as I recall .50 cents or 5 for $2.00. I'll pass on this one, thanks anyhow.
