Todays car is Maisto's 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8

Wikipedia
Quote:

On December 3, 2007, Chrysler started taking deposits for the third-generation Dodge Challenger, which debuted on February 6, 2008 simultaneously at the Chicago Auto Show[1] and Philadelphia Auto Show. Listing at US$40,095, the new version is a 2-door coupe which shares common design elements with the first generation Challenger. The chassis is a modified version of the LX platform that underpins the 2006-Current Dodge Charger, 2005-2008 Dodge Magnum, and the 2005-Current Chrysler 300. (Primarily a shortened wheelbase) It is equipped with the SRT-8 6.1L Hemi and a 5-speed AutoStick automatic transmission, and outperforms the legendary 1970 Hemi Challenger. The entire 2008 run of 6,400 cars were pre-sold, and production commenced on May 8, 2008.

I think the regular line that Maisto does in which this model falls into is great. There are some really nice models in it that haven't been done by any other manufacturer. The castings are good, but most lack detail, but it's nothing that can't easily be fixed. Best of all is the price though - they are so cheap.

This model looks really nice. And it is one of the few I have seen that it well detailed.

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
When I finally get around to finding one of these, I can't wait to compare it to the new HW version of the same car (and close to same color). At first glance, the Maisto version looks more detailed and captures the "bulk" of the real car, but the overall feel says it's a bit too boxy. I need to reserve judgement and wait for a good comparison. Overall, I'd say this one is a very nice casting and I will be looking forward to spending more than a few dollars for some of these. :)

I wish both Maisto and HW would NOT have added that sunroof option, it detracts from the muscle car look of simplicity and power.

Actually, if it hadn't been for the sunroof I would've never known that the new Hot Wheels casting wasn't the same as the prototype casting! I think that's why they did that.

And nice ride! I agree on the wheelswap though!

Lets see, what hasn't been said already.
I agreee with James_Autos that these model are nice for their inexpensive price.
I agree with jedimario on the tampos and especially the wheels.
I agree with ivantt about the sunroof.
Sak, I have to say at this price point the balck windows are okay with me as I prefer that to strange colors interiors and bad glass colors, too. (Of course I would rather have a model car with an interior).
So, I would say you guys covered it all on this car!
Um, can I get a pic of the base?

The reborn Challenger is already a decade old. Zach, how long before this massive coupe turns up competing in a demo derby? In that time it's had a few minor styling facelifts and mostly power infusions. Both of it's primary competitors have released new models in this time frame. Two generations of Camaro have been introduced since the Challenger came out, and one freshened Mustang and one completely new Mustang (so let's say 1 and a half). To say the real car is long in the tooth at this point is an understatement. And with Fiat having bitten off more than they could chew with buying Chrysler, who knows when (if ever) this car will see a new generation. Currently, per Allpar, it's scheduled for 2021. Of course Allpar's already pushed that date back several years as is... The point is Dodge is down to just two cars* sold in the USA - the Challenger and the Charger. Both are in dire need of a replacement at this point.

*Not counting the Durango or Journey...or the legacy Grand Caravan that remains in production for some inexplicable reason. Or the Neon, which is sold in Mexico and Dubai.

Really not bad for an offering from Maisto - as tksjohn notes one can even still get this casting in retail stores. :D Just saw an articles that indicates Fiat may be dropping what is left of the Chrysler brand and wonder how that bodes for the Dodge brand.

These gray wheels, with rubber-like tires, were available on promotional issues commissioned by Dodge when the real car was brand new (car show giveaways, I believe). The promo model came in silver, black and orange.
