Today's car is Malibu's version of the Jaguar XK.

Wikipedia

Jaguar unveiled an all-new 2006 car (project code X150), called simply the "XK", at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2005. It uses the new all-aluminium monocoque chassis developed from the 2005 Advanced Lightweight Coupé (ALC) concept car and is offered as both a coupé or convertible.

In the opposite manner to the way convertibles are traditionally designed, the coupé is based on the convertible. This meant that the engineers could design the convertible without the drawbacks of the car looking like, and actually being, a coupé with the top chopped off. It also meant that minimal additional weight was required to maintain the structural rigidity lost with the removal of the roof (1,635 kg (3,600 lb) kerb weight for the convertible versus 1,595 kg (3,520 lb) for the coupé).[3] This makes the XK convertible exceptionally rigid and lightweight for a car of its type, offering an extremely impressive driving experience.

The XK convertible was introduced at the 2006 North American International Auto Show. It features a conventional cloth top that will open or close in 18 seconds.

Metalic blue paint shines well on this casting.

Engines
Initially, the XK was powered by a 300 hp (225 kW) version of the 4.2 L AJ-V8 petrol engine. In October 2006, a supercharged version of that engine was added with a maximum output of 420 hp (300 kW). For model year 2008 has been presented the 3.5l V8 version with 258 hp (192 kW).

David, if you go to the link for general diecast here on the Garage, you can find a link to Malibu Int. official homepage. It's not much but it will give you an idea of what they make.

Here's the link: http://www.malibuinternationallimited.com/

Thank you, again, Craftymore for the link!

Oh, and can I get a pic of the base? [Just kidding]. :D

Seriously, are the tires plastic? The bottom pic looks like they may have a bit of "tread" on them.

The tires themselves are sythetic/rubber. They are not plastic. The base is plastic though. They do have tread that is very near to the same tread design found on the 1/1. All of these features plus a display stand enclosed in a clear plastic cover for less than $3. I found a silver XK last week for $0.50 as they were discounted at Wally World.

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
HEY!! Mine is SILVER, and was one of the first Malibu's in 1/64 I grabbed. Now I'll have to find the blue one!
Next to the Matchbox version, this one is very similar except the Malibu has a slightly wider body and plastic light lenses.

Perhaps Sir Crafty may want to give us a little side by side review?

This is a very nice casting of a very nice looking auto. Good CotD selection. :)

This casting also comes in red that I saw in a five pack at wally world as well.

I think if the board would have a Car of The Year vote, I'd pick this one over all others. From the great metalic blue paint, to the correct proportions, as well as the unique rims and tires, this is about as good as diecast can get especially for under $3.

AQUAMARINE color?? EASY!!

Quick, take it apart and customize it!!

SIR CRAFTY, thanks for the nice side by sides. Can you give us a comparo with the Matchbox version and your opinions? :) :) :)

OOPS, I now realize I didn't get the red revamp because it was in a five pack.
I think that one is still available in my area.

Sorry, Swifty, but I guess I beat you out on the red one I grabbed at the CARnival 3 years ago! I never knew it came in any color but the red I have. Never having heard of Malibu, I figured it was a relatively small outfit that would concentrate on one color per model - Guess I was wrong. It's just as pretty in silver and silver blue as it is in red.

Group picture. Blue, silver, black, and brighter red are all High Speed / Malibu. The deeper red, up front, is the sole Greenlight release (Motor World), and has better details than the High Speed releases.
