Other than the tampo and the rear axle not staying in place, it's a nice casting of perhaps a not so loved Jeep.

Although it is a bit obscure, I really like this casting. I used a q-tip and rubbing alcohol to get the tampo off of the door. It didn't work as well as I'd hoped, but i think of it as battle scars. These pics aren't the best, but I'm still practicing.

Nice Jeep! I have this one too.

As for the tampos, I use non-acetone nail polish remover. It works like a charm and is only a dollar and change at Wal*Mart.

I didn't even know about this casting.
Now I will have to find atleast a couple copies of it.
Small world, in some respects.
My sister and brother-in-law own a real one.
It is black coloured with a brown leather interior, top of the line model, with the 5.7L Hemi engine plus all the bells and whistles.
While visiting them, I got to drive it a couple times last weekend.
A very nice ride and an unusual vehicle to say the least.

Thanks for posting this thread.

Cheers. Cobra

Why did Motormax decide to issue this model in their American Craffiti series? And the Dodge Magnum? They don't really fit in. They'd have fit in better in their regular line, but the rubber tyres and excellent detailing would dissapear.

I have this one in my collection; tampo free of course ;) I was surprised Jeep decided to sell the Commander in the UK when we already have the Cherokee, the and Liberty. And now we've got that hideous Compass as well. Yuck :flamewar:

I got a regular Motor Max issue of this in black, in one of the regular blisters. It wasn't around here, though, I think I got it in North Carolina.

I'm still looking for it.
Sooner or later it will show up in a store near me!
And I will buy a couple extras copies that I will remove the tampos before giving them to my sister and brother-in-law.

Cheers. Cobra

The basic line had the Commander in black.

The American Grafitti line offered the Commander in black, and a very dark metallic green.

The green is so dark, it could pass for black at first glance, but side-by-side, the difference becomes clearer.

Maybe a brighter light would help these old aging eyes tell the difference. Can you see the difference I still can't see the difference. But if you say so. I believe you.

There's not a whole lot of difference. The main thing that caught my eye, was the metallic in the dark green one. I thought it was metallic black until I really looked closely, and saw a hint of green. The slight difference shown between the two pics are as much as is present in the models. On my monitor, the lower picture looks like there is more light being used, and the Jeep looks gray-er. Can you see that? These pics were taken within moments of each other, with the same setting, so the 'lighter' look is the difference. (Take my word on it...I'm just spinning my wheels here now! haha) I am sure the difference between the two was missed by most as these sat in the stores. Motor Max missed out by not making the green lighter (or just releasing a different color altogether...something in the silver-gray family, or even burgundy).

A very good casting

I'd take one easy if it weren't for the tampo.

I believe you, I believe you, I like the casting, I don't think I have ever seen that AG in person. We do have American Grafitti, just I never saw the jeep. IMHO it doesn't fit the AG line very well

they do American SUV's they do nicely. But then Maisto is starting to do their premium line nicely

And now that I know, I'm positive I'm guilty of this myself! Seriously, it seemed like Walmart had gotten in far too many of the "black" Commanders compared to the rest of the cars in the release. And now I know why. :duh: :?!?:

I've been removing tacky Tempos for years. I would love to find a few of these Jeeps.

The basic-range model does not need any tampo removal, but the wheels aren't as nice as the American Grafitti releases. It's also done in black, which baffles me. Three different releases...all almost the same color!
