I found this little gem at a local thrift store for .29 cents. I didn't know the brand until after reading a thread here @ Swifty's.

It has seen better days, but I'm so not complaining... :D It makes a great addition to my collection.

Nice Corolla! Do you have their Camry?

MotorMax has always been very good at making ordinary cars fit into their range. It's part of their corporate heritage. They (Red Box) bought Zylmex in the mid 1990s and took over the manufacturing of the Zee Toys line under the name MotorMax. Zylmex was also known for doing ordinary cars in their range- Pinto, Vega, '74 Chevelle, Fury, etc.

Great find of a common car. Looks like a awesome casting of the Corolla. Swifty is right, Mototmax does do alot of common cars that no one else even considers doing in small scale. I have a beater version of the '97? Camry that Swifty alluded to.

Excellent find for 29c. Looks ripe for customizing. Is that your intention? :P

Are the ordinary Motormaxes like this one still available through chain stores in the states? I think the Early Learning Centre over here may still sell them under their own name, but I've never once dared to go in to see. It's a shop aimed at pre-schoolers and very young children.

I would love to have the Camry...my Partner has a '90 LE-V6 that we both just love. It's a true little old lady special, only had 123k when we got it.

James - Probably not gonna banger it, but have a few other potential candidates. To be honest, I don't know if they are still available here or not. I don't think we have the Early Learning Center you spoke of.

I've seen the Motomax castings available as singles from various dollars stores here in the states. They are also found at Toys 'r Us in multi packs as well.

Go on in, If you arouse suspician, just tell them your buying them for your son, or grandson whose coming to visit.

Ot tell them the truth, You collect diecast, nothing to be ashamed of...... You should see the looks I get when I tell people I collect toy cars.

I shouldn't get ashamed of my hobby, but I have to admit I do. I have been in shops and had funny looks from parents and shop assistants (haven't we all). There I am looking through a tray of cars on a shelf, with toddlers behind me waiting from me to finish!

I turned around one day and gave a kid 2 T-hunts I found, It kinda made his day. And his Mom looked pleased too. Don't worry though neither one was a Chevy, He would of had to pry it loose from my cold dead hand if he wanted that. :P

Yeah, we've all had those moments. For me, it was when I was about 15 or so. I was probably very close to quitting collecting just because of the embarrassment factor. What changed my mind for good was a new brand called Johnny Lightning. Suddenly there were classic muscle cars in the toy aisle aimed at adult collectors. I ate them up! And I haven't looked back since. To this day I'm thankful that I never quit collecting, and that I never gave up my childhood cars.

I have felt very embarrassed at times about this hobby, especially at school. I'd tell one person, and then days later the whole class knew! I took a lot of stick for it, but never at any time did I feel I wanted to quit the hobby. I never wanted to because I enjoyed it so much.

It's a big part of my life. I don't know what I'd do if I gave it up.

Not anymore. Don't care about any looks, or anything. My attitude in the toy aisle is, get outta my way :D

I also have a bright red one, and a couple of wheel variations, which have not been photographed yet. The Motor Max Corolla casting is not the U.S.-spec version, but it's close enough for me.

Sorry I'll have to pass, i don't have room in my driveway for 5. Driveway only holds 2 cars at best, then even one of them has got 2 wheels on the lawn.
