Jimmy Retired and still lives near Martinsville Speedway. He was near the end of his career when he drove for the Petty Truck team and won a race in Martinsville in 1999. |

Very cool! I still remember his pole position in the #3 car when Dale got delayed by Hurricane Hugo. Imagine if Dale had been later and Jimmy had started the car that day- he might have won his first Cup race and been propelled to star status instead of being relegated to also-ran teams for the remainder of his Cup career. |

Yes we here in N.C. remember Hugo well of course. Dale/Teresa have a 300 acre property they live and farm. Dale told Richard Childress that he was staying in Mooresville to clean up around the farm that friday. This was back when everybody drove to Martinsville from home. Dale came up on Saturday and practiced the car. I bet Nascar would have cxl'ed the race if drivers like Earnhardt could not make it to the track. Jimmy Hensley was known as the Virginia Gentleman and he was a great short track racer as well as a Cup Rookie of the year in the 1990's. It would have been awesome to him win a Cup race at Martinsville. |
