ALCO (US) 1909-1913

The American Locomotive Co ( ALCO) of Providence RI originally produced the American Berliet under license from the parent company in France. But ALCO believed they could build a better car from scratch. Their 1909 product boasted proper balance and fitness to travel on the roads of that period. The company also later produced taxicabs and trucks as well. The company took pride in slow and accurate production methods . But this lack of rapid productivity was the downfall of this firm.
A model of the Touring Car was produced previously by High Speed Metal and Plastic Products of Hong Kong. It is shown in their 2005 catalog as # 215 in their Classic Vehicle series.

The Mustang II is a Mustang too!
Wikipedia

The company diversified into the automobile business in 1906, producing French Berliet designs under license. Production was located at ALCO's Rhode Island Locomotive Works in Providence, Rhode Island. Two years later, the Berliet license was abandoned, and the company began to produce its own designs instead. Alco cars won the Vanderbilt Cup in both 1909 and 1910 and also competed in the Indianapolis 500 in 1911, but they had less success in sales, abandoning automobile manufacture in 1913. The Alco automobile story is chiefly notable for starting the automobile career of Walter P. Chrysler, the plant manager, who left for Buick in 1911 and subsequently founded the Chrysler automobile giant.

Interestingly, I encountered the same Alco racer as shown in the post above last year (2008) at a vintage car dealership in Brussels, Belgium:

It is the only Alco "passenger car" I have ever seen live; all other Alcos I ever encountered were trucks.

Here is the picture from the 2005 High Speed catalog mentioned above, showing the six models of the "Classic Vehicle" range referred to:

One of these must be the Alco, but I do not know which.
