PIRANHA (US) 1966-1970

Originally introduced as an experimental plastic bodied vehicle by Marbon Chemical , a division of Borg-Warner, it was called the CRV ( Cycolac Research Vehicle) These prototype bodies were composed of a newly dveloped plastic compound which is similar to the material later used in producing telephones. The model toy company AMT was so impressed with the vehicle that they took over actual limited production and manufacture of the car. The CRV became the Piranha and it was produced at the Speed and Custom Division in Phoenix AZ . Since AMT owned the real car, kits in 1:25 scale were made avilable to kitmakers. The fullsize car was powered by the Chevrolet Corvair engine. The cars were hand assembled. Undoubtedly, the most famous car was the vehicle used on the "Man from U.N.C.L.E. TV Series" But with the cancelation of the Corvair by GM and the resulting loss of necessary engine supply, this marque also ceased production.
The only known model in small scale was made by Husky and Corgi Jr , identified as model # 1005-A.

Did it really not have a rear window? or was that a liberty taken by the manufacturer?

Cool little car.....looks like it would be fun to drive.

This picture from the "U.N.C.L.E." spinoff starring Stephanie Powers clearly shows that the real car did have a rear window:
