This year's event was the largest one to date held in Georgetown, IL. I'd guess over 130+ entries were on hand spread out over 7 classes. The action was mixed to say the least with the 80+ feature being a 50 minute bag fest. Trucks, compacts and the 70s classes were all great, but the other classes left much to be desired. The local fire department was a joke and a slow one at that. Add in some super slow bobcat operators and you have a 4 hour show turning into a 8 hour show. Overall, a disappointing show esp considering that $16,000+ was paid out among the classes combined. These shows tend to attract 'Big' name drivers who might have $10,000 or more invested in a car. They might have a $3,000 hand built motor that was engineered to run very cool for a long time along with special implement tires, transmission, slider drive shafts, and custom rear axles among other unique mods. This essentially creates a professional like demo derby circuit of drivers. Since they have superior motors/drivetrains, they essentially sandbag the entire heat by just love tapping other cars in hopes of just outlasting them instead of eliminating them through aggressive hits. It sucks in other words. The 80 and newer class feature lasted 50 minutes. How ridiculous. Also on the way home I saw a brown blur coming at me at night and then heard a loud thud on my rear drivers side fender. I think it was a small deer and have a few scratches on my Tracker for proof. Not exactly the best derby I've seen lately for sure. Enough on the rant, onto the pics. Beginner's class. For 14-21 year olds with no feature wins. This was a 80+ one heat run class. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() They had a huge muddy spot which took them like 20+ minute to repair using a grader. ![]() Promoter's heat. The 1st of its kind heat for derby promoters. Essentially 7 teams of 2 cars competed with promoters from throughout the Midwest entered. Guys from Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan and Missouri were featured. The top three cars were allowed to advance to the 80+ feature. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 80+ heats ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
