Station Wagon
The E R Thomas Motor Car Co was located in Buffalo NY. They initially produced the Autotwo in 1899 and the limited their production to engines until 1902. At that time Thomas took over the previously Buffalo car operations . They introduced their first touring car in 1903 . This model was renamed the Thomas Flyer in 1905. In 1906 Thomas introduced a less expensive car called the Thomas-Detroit which wqas made in Detroiy Michigan. The Flyer was the winning car in the New York to Paris Race conducted in 1908. The Thomas- Detroit became the Chalmers-Detroit two years later when a controling portion of stock was purchased by Chalmers. In the mean time the parent Thomas Co ceased operations in the late teens . Subsequently the Chalmers-Detroit Motor Co was taken over by Maxwell in the early 1920s. Maxwell was the predecessor to the newly formed Chrysler Corp now facing possible bankruptcy and/ or a merger with FIAT of Italy. There is only one known model in small scale of the Thomas Flyer. It was made by High Speed and was offered to the public by Readers Digest as a book promotonal. Note that Matchbox Yesteryears also issued a model of this car but its larger size does not fit within the parameters of this
forum.
