Support your local demo derby.

Finally have some free time to post these pics up after a hetic week. One of the harder hitting shows I've seen since the derby at Greenup in August of '08. They had about 35 full size that ran in 4 qualifying heats, 1 big car consi and a compact class with about a dozen or so entries. Compact cars must have a wheelbase of 106" or less at Marshall. The rules for this show are essentially pro-mod. Drivers can weld all top seams of the frame, add 22" of steel plating to the rear humps and switch/add leaf springs, up to 7 leafs per side. Also allowed is the welding of steel rebar into the A-Arms. Unlimited use of #9 wire is also in effect.

Swifty, you showed me some of the rules that one of the local promoters ran a while back and judging by those rules, these would be considered pseudo-outlaw cars. They don't bend too quickly!

Since it's a full weld show, new style Ford/Lincolns ('80+) are allowed to do some extra strengthening of the front end of the car. If you cut the front frame rales near the crush boxes and tilt the frame at a slight angle, it signicficanly increases the strength of the front end to the point where those Ford/Mercs and Lincolns can go head to head with virtually any non Imperial car and win. This is called Tilting or Tipping in derby slang. At places where you can only weld from the A-Arms forward, it's considered cheating. At full weld shows, it's considered building a competitive car.
