HUDSON (US) 1909-1957

This firm was founded by Roy Chapin and financed by J. L. Hudson, the CEO of the store in Chicago IL by the same name. In 1919 Hudson introduced a less expensive Essex with a successful attempt to capture additional sales. Essex production ceased in 1932. It was replaced by the Terraplane in 1933. In addition Hudson engines were used to power Railton and Brough Superior cars in England. In 1948, a new car with stepdown interior design was introduced. Later models of this car were successful as racers at the NASCAR tracks. In 1954 Hudson became part of AMC.

Small scale models of this marque have been made by Ertl ( Essex) , Benbros, Mattel Pixar, High Speed, RCErtl, Johnny Lightning, Team Caliber and Ferrero Kinder Surprise eggs .

Tomica has also done "Doc Hudson" in their line of Disney/Pixar "Cars". He's even closer to 1/64 than the Mattel cars which are closer to 1/55!
