They split this show up on two nights. I went the 2nd night. From what I heard, they had pathetic car counts for both nights. Webb Promotions, has pretty much driven this show straight into the ground. They don't inspect cars worth a hoot and don't have a guaranteed purse. Add in that I think you could bribe them with a 6 pack of beer, and you have a recipe for disaster for derbies. They use to have close to 30 shows every year and are now down to about 3 due to favoritism and lack of rule enforcement. Unfortunately they still have my hometown show in Charleston too, sigh. 7 full size and about 8 compacts plus 1 truck = wasted gas and $9 sunk on tickets. They ran one qualifying heat of the full size and took 4 cars to the feature. Why even have a heat and not just a feature was beyond me. They watered down the track way too much even after an early morning rain that moved through the area which had left puddles. Add in that the track is super small to start with, and things were never meant to be. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Here's the lousy promoters: ![]() ![]() ![]() Compacts were actually decent as they were all fwd. They are all pure stock. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The red Chevy wagon won the compacts. A guy from Toledo won the full size class after a Lincoln overheated, and the other two cars in the full size feature were stuck in the mud. Perhaps the only redeemable thing about the whole night is this pic of a corn field behind the small and rather crappy grandstands. You can see several Amish businesses and homes. The area around Arthur is home to several thousand Amish with plenty of nice woodworking shops, specialty grocery stores, and meat markets. All in all, I'm never going back to Arthur to watch another derby. Just sucks that Webb still has the show in Charleston. ![]() |

The Mustang II is a Mustang too!

At least the compacts were entertaining... So I have to ask- with only one truck, what did he do- run into the barriers until it stopped running?

They let him go on the track before the feature. He did a few doughnuts and then overheated. One car that qualified for the feature rushed to the track to take him on and then did a few hot laps before just tapping the truck in the fender. Pathetic.
