Station Wagon

EDSEL (US) 1958-1960 This marque was intended to fit into the lower cost hierarchy of the Lincoln-Mercury Division of Ford Motor Company. Marketing research had incorrectly indicated there was a need for this new marque but it was later discovered to be nonexistent. The Edsel used Mercury sheet metal and featured an radical horsecollar vertical grille. Production ceased in the third year as a noticeable lack of sales appeared. This last year of manufacture used a modified Ford body with only slightly changed grillework and taillighting. Diecast models have been made by Racing Champions (Mint Editions) and recently by Hot Wheels Classics of the 1958 car. |

Wasn't there an AHI Edsel as well? I seem to remember seeing one, but don't have it... |

There is a micro sized '58 Bermuda Station Wagon, although the maker eludes me as I don't actively collect those. As a fan of Edsel wagons, I am surprized and disappointed that more makers haven't made more than a cursory bid, and that only to the '58 2-door. I have seen pics of real 1:1 '58 Edsel Roundup Station Wagon (2 door), Bermuda (4 door) and an Ambulance. I have seen a couple of real 1:1 '59 Edsel Villager (4 door) Station Wagons, and recently I saw a picture of an extremely rare (less than 50 made) '60 Edsel Villager (4 door) Station Wagon that was too far gone with rust. All of these it seems to me are good candidates for re-creation in 1:64, and all would likely be big hits with the Edsel collector crowd. In my opinion. Edited by juantoo3, Jan 17 2010, 01:28 PM.

The Mustang II is a Mustang too!

Micro Machines- I have that one myself. I've often wondered why no one ever does the Edsel wagons myself. Edsels and wagons are both unique enough on the pegs and have their fans that it would seem like a natural fit. |
