Bullitt Mustang; RC vs Revell

One of the things I picked up at JJ09 was the Revell Bullitt Mustang and Charger. I had been looking for both for a few years with no luck. I had however found a RC copy of the car and figured I would just be happy with it. Well since I have both now I thought I would show a side by side.

The RC is on the right, Revell on the left.

The RC casting seems to sit up higher and the hood is not right

Profile shot of the RC shows Shelby air intakes behind the door and on the rear pillar. At least they grayed out the rims.

Posted Image

Revell did not detail the rims but at least the did not have unnecessary air intakes

Posted Image

RC used a chrome piece of plastic with the taillights painted on a black background affixed to the rear thowing off the smooth lines of the car. Revell's tail is part of the casting.

Engine bay of the Revell looks ok. I can't say it it resembles the movie car or not; they never showed under the hood.

RC casting: above comment goes for this too.

Posted Image

The RC Casting is longer as well as wider and the wheels stick out of the wheel wells. Not sure which is an accurate 1/64 scale.

RC had used their Shelby casting and put on a different hood and added a glued on tail piece and called it the "Bullitt" Mustang.

With Revell I don't know if this was already a casting they had and decided to use. In my eyes it represents the "Bullitt" car much better.

If I had not found the Revell casting I would have been fine with the RC casting. But I am glad I found the Revell.

Thanks for the comparison Snowowl. I have the Revell Bullitt Mustang.

I wish Greenlight would make a Bullitt Mustang in 1/64 scale. I think it would be the nicest version.

Support your local demo derby.

I'd say the Revell is easily more realistic than the RC casting. RC castings from back in the day often were made to fit a certain length, like 3.25". I'd agree with Stutz, If GL would make a Bullet version of the Stang it would be killer.

Thanks for the pics/review Leigh.

AFAIK the Revells were actula 1/64 (or very close to it).

I've got the Revell and it is a very nice piece.

Great comparison! I have both as well, and it took me years to find the Revell pair. I think they were issued in 1998, and I stumbled across them at Toy Liquidators in 2001 or so.

I have since painted the mag wheels on the Stang black like they're suppose to be... It looks much better !!!

Wow... the RC one doesn't pull off it off that well at all! The air inlets, the rear spoiler, and the hood that doesn't go all the way to the nose - but at least it has the correct front bumper :P The proportions are much better looking in the Revell. Painting the rims makes it look a lot better too.

Pictures of the Greenlight Bullitt Mustang with the Revell Mustang from many years ago. The GL model is the on one the left. GL did a great job producing the car, however I think it may be a shade off in the color.

Both are great and IMO both can hold their own considering the Revell older. And we won't even compare the GL with the RC casting. Mine has been put in a box for my daughters to play with outside in the dirt.

I'm still leaning towards the Revell- the GreenLight sits too high for my liking. That said, I can't wait to get my grubby hands on the GreenLight anyway! :D

I with you Swifty, the GL is more hip with the correct wheels, but the body on the Revell just "looks" more scale. Thanks for all the great pics guys!

Think Sean and Ward are right. The Revell version does have a better stance than the GL. Even as old as the Revell version is, it still looks quite good today.
