Today's car of the day is Hasbro's 2007 Chevrolet Beat concept (Autobot Skids).

The Chevrolet Beat, along with the Trax and the Groove, debuted as a concept vehicle at the 2007 New York International Auto Show.

Pretty nice replica, though the Transformers fans are up in arms on how it doesn't transform. Personally, I have wanted a set of diecast* replicas of Transformers in a non-transforming 1/64 for a long time, so these are welcome to me even if I'm not as fond of the recent movies as I am the original series.

*These are 100% plastic, not diecast, but they are 1/64.

The front-drive, three-door hatchback concept, derived from the Daewoo Kalos platform, was built in India, and designed by GM Daewoo in South Korea. It is powered by a 1.2 L turbocharged gasoline engine mated to an automatic transmission. The Spark concept sports a Vertigo Green exterior paint job with the same hue carried over to parts of the interior. Its profile is high at the rear and tapering down evenly to the front of the grille. Headlights that appear to extend all the way from the base of the grille to the base of the windshield are LED-type. Oversize 17 inch wheels barely hide the matching green paint of disc brakes. Twin taillights that extend upward to the back-up lights are also LED's.

In early 2007, GM conducted a poll testing the relative popularity of the Beat, Trax and Groove concepts on a Chevrolet website, the Beat receiving nearly 50% of the vote. This car was designed to appeal to young car buyers in urban markets, infusing the energy, diversity and excitement of urban life into a car that would deliver good-looking fun, fuel economy and value.

Skids appears in the 2009 installment to the live-action Transformers series. He was discovered by the public when one of the Autobots, a Chevrolet Beat, had a license plate that reads "SKIDZ". Skids is the brother to the Autobot Mudflap. Mudflap is very hyperactive, while Skids believes himself to be the smarter of the two and tries to come across as mature, but nevertheless appears unable to keep quiet.

Skids is 11 foot 4 inches tall and weighs 1.2 metric tons. He has an oversized right arm, as opposed to his twin brother, Mudflap, whose left is oversized. Skids has two buck teeth; one golden, the other normal.

According to the biography and statistics published on the Hasbro web site Skids is 8 feet tall and he has a nearly psychic link with his brother allowing them to make coordinated attacks. It also states that Skids and Mudflap used to serve as messengers before becoming warriors.

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
I saw those. I think they go for about 2.97 at Walmart, and there also is a introductory pack with a car and truck for the same price. I also noticed if you want to see what the robot is, you turn it upside down and they have they color image there. Not exactly a "transformer," and I'm sure Swifty's correct that the fans are up in arms.
There are some cool cars in this series, even if all plastic and no interiors. I've got my eyes on these, and I think we'll be seeing them on clearance before Christmas.
Perhaps Hasbro should be thinking of just releasing the cars without robot on the bottom?

Very Aveo-ish. I like the fact that it does *not* transform. Makes it much more appealing to me.

Erm. I guess non-transforming is fine, maybe I'll take a peek at this series, but I won't be buying a Beat xD

I found this in a two-pack with Mudflap at Target this past Saturday. It's even better in person.
