OAKLAND (US) 1907-1931

This company was established by A P Brush who had previously designed the the Cadillac and Brush automobiles. In 1090, Oakland became part of the newly established General Motors Corporation (GM). Production was very successful and Oakland introduced a less expensive marque to their Division in 1926. This new car was the Pontiac and within five years, the Oakland brand name was discontinued . This action was no doubt due to the economc conditions at the time due to the Great Depression . Expensive cars were no longer affordable.

The availability of small scale diecast models of this marque is almost nonexistant. But High Speed did change the name on their previously issued Peugeot casting to be called an Oakland , as identified on their box. Also, a crude metal model of a 1924 Oakland is rportedly included in the Ferrero Kinder Surprise eggs series.

Unfortunately, it has indeed been closed. :( I was there many years ago myself.
