The Mustang II is a Mustang too!

Today's car of the day is M2 Machines' 1967 Chevrolet Nova SS.

Wikipedia

The Chevrolet Nova is an automobile produced in the United States from 1962 to 1979 by the Chevrolet division of General Motors and from 1985 to 1988 by the NUMMI, a joint venture between General Motors and Toyota. In its original form it was the top model in the compact Chevy II range and was marketed as the Chevrolet Chevy II Nova until the Chevy II name was dropped for the 1969 model year. The original platform was discontinued and the name returned as a front wheel drive subcompact car based on the Japanese Toyota Sprinter.

Beautiful casting from M2! Opening doors, opening hood, and I hear later examples will even come with a six banger for grandma to drive to church on Sundays.

Wikipedia

1966 Novas saw a significant restyling, based in part on the Super Nova concept car. In general, proportions were squared up but dimensions and features changed little. Engine options still included the basic inline four and six-cylinder engines and V8s of 283 cu in (4.64 L) and 327 cu in (5.36 L) (the latter offering now offering up to 350 hp (260 kW).

During this time, the 90 hp (67 kW) 153 cu in (2.51 L) four-cylinder engine was only offered in the base Chevy II 100 series models with the 120 hp (89 kW) 194 cu in (3.18 L) inline-six standard on the Nova and Super Sport models. In addition to the V8s, other optional engines included a 140 hp (100 kW) 230 cu in (3.8 L) six-cylinder and a 155 hp (116 kW) 250 cu in (4.1 L) six-cylinder, the latter a new offering for 1967. For 1966, Super Sport (SS) models did not carry the Nova name, but were badged as Chevy II Super Sports. However the ’66 Chevy II sales brochure clearly promoted the SS as the “Chevrolet Chevy II Nova Super Sport”.

Although Chevy IIs had the same body for both these years, 1967 models carried significant improvements in the area of safety equipment. A government-mandated energy-absorbing steering column and safety steering wheel, soft interior parts such as armrests and sun visors, recessed instrument panel knobs, and front shoulder belt anchors, were included in all 1967 models.

Good - but somehow less good than previous M2s? Or is it just me?

It just looks a bit...off...?

Gonna start crying right now, If there is one car that I really want in a 1:1 it is a mid 60's Chevy II or a Pontiac Acadian. Even this chiffon yellow color is beginning to grow on me. Thanks for the CotD, it is one M2 I must find.

James, I'm not sold on M2 catings yet.
I need to see a few of them up close for a better look.
I wasn't impressed with the plastic versions that you can still find in large quantiities in Walmart stores in my area.
I would prefer to be able to find Greenlight castings on a regular basis at the local level.
With the Greenlight castings, I know what I am getting and I have somewhere between 40 and 60 of them in my collection now.

Cheers. Cobra

Swifty sent me a few metal bodied M2's, and I am impressed, although the multitude of opening parts can lead to bad lines, but that is the opening part nightmare isn't it, Johnny doesn'r exactly get it right some time, hoods that won't close or close crooked. M2's are well detailed, and have nice paint finishes, there have been some poor quality issues but the ones I was sent all are very nice. I bought a set of the plastic bodied ones just to have them, and to have some custom bait.

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
I like it. I'll need to see one and look it over based on DCDingo's comments, but it looks better than anyone else's so far, IMO.
A light tan Nova, chuckle.....in ancient history I recall a fellow driving one who wanted to race me off an intersection.... :D :D

I had a dark blue metallic '65 Goat then with the factory 310 (ha ha) HP and Hurst shifter setup. I would make the "look" that I was thinking about the challenge, but would let guys tear up the street (and their tranny) from the light, while I'd just do a normal start. I DO remember saying to myself, "How dare this guy want to race me with a Nova!! " I didn't have to prove anything, but who knows what may have been under his hood, but probably was a 283.
Sorry James, no race.

At least you didn't embarrass the car, just the driver
