Today's car of the day is Tiger Wheels' 1956 Chevrolet Cameo.

Wikipedia

The successor to the venerable Advance Design trucks, the Task Force Series ran from late 1955 (second series) through 1959.

The 1955 second series offered standard options and add-ons such as 12 volt electrical systems, the first V8 (the 265 cubic inch), and a fleet-side bed.

Unfortunately, Chevy had a lot of different names for their trucks in this era, and Tiger Wheels wasn't very specific with which one they modeled. Forgive the scrapes and scratches, I saved this one from the banger track where it had already done a few runs.

Wikipedia

1955 Second Series - First year for new body style. New "wrap-around" windshield - a truck industry first - and optional wrap-around rear window on Deluxe cabs. Power steering and power brakes are now available for the first time on GM trucks. Electrical system has been upgraded to 12 volts. Fenders have single headlights and one-piece emblem is mounted below horizontal line on fender.[3]

1956 - Wider hood emblem. Two-piece fender emblems are now mounted above horizontal fender line. Last year for egg crate grille.

1957 - Only year for more open grille. Hood is flatter with two spears on top, similar to the 1957 Bel Air. Fender emblems are still above fender line, but are now oval-shaped, as opposed to previous versions in script.

1958 - First year for fleetside bed, significant redesign of front end. All 1/2-ton trucks are now called Apaches. Truck now has four headlights instead of the previous two and features a shorter, wider grille running the width of the front end. Parking lights are now in the grille instead of being in the front of the fender and the hood is similar to 1955/1956 models, but with a flat "valley" in the middle. First year for factory-equipped air conditioning.

1959 - Minimal changes from 1958. The last year that the NAPCO (Northwestern Auto Parts Company) "Powr-Pak" four-wheel drive conversion could be factory ordered.

I figured you might like this one, James! ;)

And no, there are no other Chevrolets on tap to be run this week so you're safe to vote for this one. :D

Support your local demo derby.

Never realized that TW even had done this casting. The wheels look like a combo of HW and Maisto. Bet these are quite good for gravity racing.

Tiger Wheels? Never heard of it.
They were started back at either the late 90s or early part of this decade. They placed an emphasis on gravity racing so the castings they produced were all metal and pretty heavy. TW also produced a '87 Buick GN, '70 Chevelle, '68 Shelby GT 350 and a 1st gen Ford Maverick among others.

Tiger Wheels also had very limited runs or perhaps less than 1,000 or less which makes finding them less than easy.

They are now out of business to my knowledge.

Here is a really good story from Doug on Tiger Wheels when they first started.

Swifty, Dave Weber or Kimmo could provide you with more info about the company.

Tiger Wheels were created to capitalize on the gravity racing fad that struck Puerto Rico at the beginning of the decade. And when the fad fizzled, so did Tiger Wheels. Among other castings they also have a first generation Camaro, Buick Riviera, a modern funny car, a VW Bus and I believe a Ford Crown Victoria police car may also have been offered near the end (I have never seen one to verify this).

In addition to all metal body and base, they also had weights inside. All in all, some are good for gravity racing (Chevelle!) and some are not (Camaro!). Everyone I know with this pickup ends up bangering it, much to my chagrin (and hence my finally successful rescue of this one!). The secret to Tiger Wheels is some take time to come in. Most people don't have the patience to keep running a slow car and waiting for it to hook up. They want instant gratification of something fast out of the blisterpack.

Last I heard, Doug breithaupt still had a few Rivieras remaining at $4 each. This is an excellent price. But I make no guarantee that any remain as these were previously discussed here and Doug even made a few comments as I recall. Contact him at breithaupts.com or dougb@tscnet.com . Good luck

Great casting!

I have this Tiger Wheels casting, but the roof of the truck has some chips in the paint. I came that way in the packaging.
