Industrias Kaiser Argentina was established when the former Kaiser-Willys Corporaion shipped some of their body dies to Buenos Aires after the US operations were shutdown due to financial difficulties. IKA was formed in cooperation with the national government. Their first production model was the Carabela. This car closely resembled the former Kaiser Manhattan from the US. In 1962 IKA began producting an Argentinan (AMC) Rambler. This was called the Torino and in 1967 Renault of France gained a controling interest and subsequently acquired IKA outright. Renaults are reportedly still being manufactured in Argentina.

A good represenative diecast small scale model was made by Buby of the Torino and although now very scarce can still be found on occasion in the secondary market of auctions and toy shows.

I think i recognize my own model! It was received from Argentina with a roof defect and plastic window misalligned! But it is still a nice model and I keep it because it is reminiscent of the Rambler made here in the US in that era.

I wonder what the difference is between the 54 Kaiser and the Carabela no including badge logos. From the pic, I can't tell any difference! It is a shame no company to date has replicated this car in miniature; be it the US or later Argentinian model!
