Today's car of the day is Jada's 1939 Dodge Airflow tanker.

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - Daimler Chrysler’s Walter P. Chrysler Museum recently unveiled its latest acquisition - a rare 1938 Dodge Airflow tanker.

Weighing 22,000 pounds, standing 27 feet long, 8 feet tall and 8 feet wide, and holding 1,250 gallons of fuel, the museum’s tanker is unique as it may be one of the only “runners” - a fully driveable restored vehicle - in the world.

As one of only 12 remaining in the world, the Chrysler Museum Restoration Team searched all over the world for the airflow tanker.

It was eventually located and acquired from an independent owner in South Carolina and fully restored by the Chrysler Restoration Team in 2001.

Due to its enormous size, the truck will be displayed outside the Walter P. Chrysler Museum at various times over the summer.

The museum is located in Auburn Hills, Mich., and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.

As you can see from the news article, details on the real vehicle are hard to come by! With only 12 known survivors odds are pretty good one would never really be customized like this one has been. The casting is typical Jada. High on unique subject matter and customization, and low on realism or scale. Which is a pity as the real truck is such a beautiful design. Tragic to think of how few remain!

Wikipedia

76 (formerly Union 76) is a chain of gas stations located within the United States. The 76 brand is owned by ConocoPhillips. Union Oil Company of California, dba Unocal, the original owner and creator of the Union 76 brand merged with Chevron Corporation in 2005.

In 1997, Unocal sold its western United States refining and marketing operations and the rights to the Union 76 brand for use in refining and marketing operations to Tosco Corporation. Tosco has since been purchased by Phillips Petroleum, which merged with Conoco to form ConocoPhillips. Unocal continued to own the "76" trademark for use in its operations, with the exception of the divested Refining and Marketing business. On August 10, 2005, Unocal Corporation and Union Oil Company of California were acquired and merged into a subsidiary of Chevron Corporation.

76, Conoco, and Phillips 66 market their brand of gasoline under the brand name PROclean. The previous brand name for their gasoline was Propower. 76 gasoline stopped being marketed under the Propower name after the termination of the commercial relationship between NASCAR and 76 after the end of the 2003 season when the firm discontinued all motorsport fuels. As of October 2004, PROclean brand fuel was included onto the list of fuels recognized as "Top Tier".

In the 1970s and 1980s, the company used the slogan "Go With the Spirit...the Spirit of '76." This has been shortened to "Get the Spirit".

Support your local demo derby.

Seen this one in some 5 packs earlier this year for around $15. The looked nice and included a COE and some others had the Dairy Delivery truck. Seems like I saw one of these at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn too. Don't remember if they had it yet at the Walter P Chrysler Museum but this was back in '02 or so.
