The Mustang II is a Mustang too!

In the 'truth is stranger than fiction' department that the automotice world has turned into since the financial meltdown last year: http://jalopnik.com/5375647/exclusive-delorean-motor-company-contemplating-building-pontiac-solstice Theoretically this could work. John Z. DeLorean obviously has Pontiac heritage (father of the GTO anyone?) and while John Z. may no longer be with us it does prove that the company that bears his name does take its heritage seriously. Personally I'd rather see them acquire the Pontiac brand and start making some Camaro-based Firebirds...but that's just me.

Saw this story on Autoblog yesterday. It makes more sense than anything else, but doubt if this becomes reality. Even if it does end up happening, how long would this really last? |

I'd like to see DeLorean make DeLoreans. I always loved those cars, even if they weren't that fast and had other problems. |

Actually- they do! They own the parts inventory from the '80s and approximately 80% of the car is made from NOS parts. Much of the rest involves upgrading the car with modern comforts like CD players or GPS. My guess is these get titled as 1981-83s somehow or otherwise they'd never meet crash test standards. Retail is in the $60,000 range for a brand new 1983 DeLorean. I'm not sure if they're still using the same PRV engine. That's one thing I do hope was not continued from the original cars! Hot Wheels has a DeLorean coming into their mainline next year. It has the gas flap hood which means it may be a replica of an earlier model. Then again DeLorean owners are notorious for changing out their hoods, windshields, etc. to make their car the way they want it since DeLoreans didn't get model year updates. Changes were made mid-production run. I'm not sure if the current DeLorean uses a gas flap hood or not, but if so this could be a replica of the new DeLorean. |

What happens when you combine two failed products into one product that doesn't have enough character in it to be able to tell which one was more important in the design? Perhaps time will tell, hopefully for the investors it won't, but I can guess either way
