Today's bus of the day is Matchbox's 1986 Ikarus 365 bus.

Wikipedia

Ikarus is a bus manufacturer based in Budapest, Hungary. It was established in 1895 as Uhri Imre Kovács- és Kocsigyártó Üzeme (roughly: "Imre Uhri's Blacksmith Workshop and Carriage Factory").

This bus had been a favorite of mine as a child to bring in the car. The weight of the all metal casting makes it very appealing to hold in hand. I have one other variation to this one, which is the yellow and white tropic combination. I never cared about it's 1:140th scale until I was about sixteen.

It was extremely difficult to find some accurate information of this specific model as the 365 is still in use and in production to this day. All of the articles found (of which were not that many) were in Czech or Hungarian.

When the Western bus market boom in 1977 reached Europe, Ikarus turned to CMEA countries for manufacturing. Then began the Örsi Francis industrial designer name associated with the Ikarus 300 tourist transportation development. The series began in 1986, with two new types of buses, the Ikarus 415, and an articulated version of the 435.

Support your local demo derby.

I have this one left over from my childhood collection as well. Still one of my favorite MB castings from back in the day. This is my sentimental favorite for the week.
