Today's bus of the day is Matchbox's 1998 Chevrolet Express 1500 Transport Bus.

Wikipedia

The Chevrolet and GMC G-Series vans were made by General Motors for North America. They are in the same vehicle class as the Ford Econoline van and the Dodge Ram Van.

The term "Chevrolet van" also refers to the entire series of vans sold by Chevrolet. The first Chevrolet van was released in 1961 on the Corvair platform, and the latest Chevrolet van in production is the Chevrolet Express.

This cast has always been a popular one among Matchbox faithfuls. This example was supplied by QuicksilverDC. I also have the green National automotive rentals variation.

Wikipedia

1995

A new longer nose and four head light design was introduced, a very popular school bus conversion. The engine also received a facelift, with the 4.3L V6 now labeled the "Vortec". Engine sizes remained fairly the same e.g. 4.3L, 5.7L, 7.4L engines. Several versions of the van were available for purchase depending on the buyer's needs. Base model was basically a stripped down model - no thrills, very limited interior and no rear seats. The "Sportvan" Had all the features of a full conversion van, but no rear seats and no fiberglass roof extension. Then finally, the "Conversion". These models were sent from the factory bare-bones, to have the interior and exterior upgrades added by third party companies such as "Mark III, Tiara, Coach, Starcraft, etc."

Support your local demo derby.

This is one casting that I don't recall ever seeing at flea markets. Was this a Tyco era release? Pretty cool regardless.

Right at the beginning of the Mattel era, actually. Whether this was on the drawing board in the Tyco era, however, is something I don't have an answer to.

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
I bought one of these when I first saw it and it is stashed away somewhere. I haven't seen the product on the pegs again since then.
So folks, my usual question concerning Matchbox releases:
WHERE ARE THE CASTING TOOLS NOW?

NOIR GURU---Your photos are excellent.

The Mustang II is a Mustang too!
While not a huge fan of the casting, these pictures are absolutely fantastic!

Ivan- I believe the tooling still exists but this one has been retired due to weight concerns. The new GMC "short bus" in the current Matchbox range replaces this one. The one with the plastic back to save weight... We may see this one turn up in 5 packs from time to time though.
