Station Wagon
Because production of this marque was a cooperative effort, I have chosen to include this car as a separate marque. The car was produced by the Austin Motor Car Company in England for exclusive sale by Nash and Hudson Dealers. This was about the same time that the merger into American Motors (AMC) took place. As a concept model, this car was initially called the NXI. It subsequently was offered as a subcompact Coupe and Convertible . Both Nash and Hudson placed their invidual brand identification on the cars. After 1957, the cars were only identified as Metropolitans in the AMC line.

Small scale odels have been made by Tootsietoy,Johnny Lightning, Hot Wheels ( radicaly modified), Widea of Hong Kong (1:87) and Muscle Machines ( greatly distorted).

This is an example of Metropolitan being used as a brand name of its own, after the demise of Nash and Hudson and before the introduction of the AMC brand.

The Mustang II is a Mustang too!

The JL.

AMC also made a prototype of the Metropolitan as a wagon. Sadly, it did not make it into production but it probably would have sold tolerably well and kept the line energized with minimal investment.
