Casting of The Year Nomination

Welcome to forum for nominating the 1st Annual Swifty's Garage Casting of The Year! Whew, that's a long title. :D Nominate any new casting for '09 that was released this year. A few running ground rules, the casting can be from any company, be of a classic or modern vehicle, and can be no larger than 1/55 in scale. Cars, trucks, semis, SUVs, Vans, and Buses can be included.

I think in the interest of those who will be voting, which is any current member here on the Garage, a picture should be included with each nomination. If anyone has any other suggestions, thoughts, or ideas, let's hear them! Since this is the 1st year for this, I'm pretty much open to anything.

Let the nominations, BEGIN!

Alright, so I open my cars up and take the tags off Beanie Babies then give the beanies to my daughters to play with. :o
After all, they are only toys :toy:

I will try to dig up some pics but for now, I want to nominate one car from each major manufacturer.

GreenLight: Javelin was already nominated
Hot Wheels: Chevrolet Chevelle wagon (only because the '67 Shelby that just came out is a 2010- if we open the poll to include castings that are supposed to be for next year than this takes the place of the Chevelle)
Johnny Lightning: can we count the International Scout 4x4 as a revised tool?
Kyosho: TVR Sagaris
M2 Machines: '70 Torino
Maisto: BMW X6
Matchbox: Dodge Monaco
Minichamps: Bentley Brooklands
MotorMax: Dodge Challenger
Tomica: Nissan 370Z

Swifty, since the major companies such as HWs and MB basically start their years off in October/November, I would count these early official 2010 releases from them and include the new Mustang and other new castings into consideration for nomination for 2009 COTY.

As for the Scout, that's fine if you want to include that from JL. Likewise for any of the old RC castings that JL has revised for the 40th Anniversary line or from their normal hobby line.

we may have to have a run down, if you get several submissions from each manufacturer, might end up with 20 castings and the winner can win with 2 votes

I'm thinking of running a series of heats to narrow down the final voting James. I suspect by the time nominations are complete, we will have many to choose from. We'll cross that bridge once we get to it. 2009 has given us a great number of new models to choose from.

I would think we'd have to have a runoff of all the new GreenLights against one another, all the new Hot Wheels' against themselves, Matchboxes against Matchboxes, etc. The winner of those matchups ends up in the main poll.

So let's say the Hot Wheels Javelin, Shelby Mustang, Chevelle wagon, and Fairlane all get nominated. They'd compete aginst each other until only one remains, then that would go up against the winners of the other polls.

New casting?? Quick! Take it apart!
All the rules suggested sound good and make sense. Good job, Crafty, of administrating this forum.
The nominations may not be as many as you think, as there are only so many from each company that will be favored, and many people would nominate the same ones. The cars I would nominate have already been mentioned, some several times, so now I don't have to nominate any. I can just wait for the voting!! :D

One question---like the Academy Awards fiascos, does a 2010 car that is out now (Crafty said it could qualify for this year 2009) ALSO qualify for 2010 since it IS OFFICIALY a 2010 car and will be issued throughout next year? So can it be in two years voting or just one? If just one, Crafty will have to keep track of which 2010 cars actually were issued in late 2009.

I used to be a genius, but I found out it's a lot less work and more fun to be a redneck.

How about we make the cutoff date 11/30, therefore any car issued from 12/1 of the preceding year is elligible along with any model for the current (or next!) year that makes it to widespread production by November 30th. Having one person nominate a car when no one else has seen it doesn't help the car's status in the polls. For example- Matchbox has just released a Cadillac ambulance- but the distribution is very spotty because most Walmarts just restocked multiple cases of the previous batch (K) whereas the Caddy (and the other 4 new castings) are all in L. It isn't widespread enough to be considered for this year unless, miracle of miracles, more people start reporting they found them. With a month to go that will very likely happen, but as of right now it's out.

Likewise, and this has happened to Matchbox the last three years (but thankfully will not happen this year!), any current year model that does not appear until after the cutoff goes on the following year's poll.

I agree with the points made by Swifty on the parameters of the cutoff dates. Sounds fair and if the car isn't in for this year, you can always nominate it for next year. No biggie.
