Support your local demo derby.

This year's final derby at Cayuga, Indiana was nothing short of awesome. Drivers & fans from Wisconsin, Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Illinois and Indiana were present in what was the largest derby in the state of Indiana for the entire year. Tory Schutte, the founder of wecrash.com and Derby Icons, was in attendence. In all over 110 entries took to the track spread out over 4 classes. 65 full size cars, 20 compacts, 16 trucks, and 13 open class cars competed. The full size stock class paid $1,500 for first and the open car class paid $500. This was by far the finest derby I saw all year with by far the best built cars and most aggressive driving. The qualifying heats were like watching super county fair features. In all, I took over 600 pics and two vids. Will try and post a good chunk of the better pics on here in the next few days or so. Chad Cline, the head inspector and flag man invited me to the derby to take pics and I got a free pit pass for the night. Standing on the track watching action really changes your perception of the action. It's much faster!

This show has quickly in its 3 year history turned into a top 10 show in the US. For the most part it was drama free, though it didn't start till 2:30 PM and end until after 11 PM. Made for a late arrival back home, 1 AM, but it was well worth the 65 mile drive.

Cayuga's rules are comparatively speaking modified compared to other places. Top seams of the frame may be welded solid and drivers can weld in 22" hump plates over the rear axle. The truck class allows the doors and tailgate to be welded shut, but no other reinforcement. Same goes for the compact class, no frame welding as well.

First up, start off with the vid I took of the Open Class single heat. The open class rules are quite different. They allow leaf spring conversions, up to 9 leafs per side, and also allow Imperials which are banned in the stock class. Non-Imperial cars may also run a pair of kickers off of the drivers cage down onto the frame in the engine compartment. Basically watching the open class was like watching a derby on steroids. Since the open class was the last one of the night, cars from the stock class could buy back in for $20 to finish off their cars for the night. An early 60s Ford Galaxy took 1st and a late 90s Ford Crown Vic/Mercury Grand Marquis took 2nd.

Austin Knorr's suicide Lincoln - He would take 5th place in the feature but would then give up his winnings and mad dog trophy after he DQ'ed himself upon refusing to cut open some sheet metal that look suspicious after post derby reinspection. It's believed he had placed steel tubing in his frame as this was the 5th derby this car had been in and the frame had yet to bend.

EPR Racing - Ear Plug Racing, this sedagon Chevy had a 450+ horsepower motor. The motor lived up to the team's name, you need ear plugs to watch these guys run!

Tilted new style bubble Ford. Drivers will take '80-'02 Fords and cut the frame rails near the firewall and then re weld them at an angle back to the rest of the frame. This makes the front ends are these new style Fords super strong. They also move the front coil springs to gaining extra height which adds more strength to the front ends.

The Mustang II is a Mustang too!
Looks like one heck of a good show! But that's one trashed Boattail. :( I hate seeing those Rivvies trashed like that! Likewise on the '67 Monaco.
