New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
|
I better start looking more carefully at the new series! I'm not too keen on spotting a WL as I'm never looking at the bases, but I noticed a bunch of the recent series have blown engines, such as the 1959 Impala in black. I would have liked that one, but don't dig the blown engine. As I was flipping through a recent peg refill, I saw about 4 of these, and WHOA!!! Something in the back of my mind said STOP, and GO BACK. There was one without the blown engine and straight stock! So my question, has anyone found any other cars in the SAME COLOR SCHEME without the blown engines, like the white 65 Mustang, for example? |

There were two distinct versions made of this specific casting. One has the big blown motor and the other is a normal version with the hood. Production is probably 50 - 50. And there was some collector negative comments about the version with the blown engine. Initially, that version was not received well by most collectors including me. Cheers. Cobra |

Support your local demo derby.

Gerry is correct, it's thought to be about 50/50 mix in production. |

I have liked the looks of 1959 Chevys ever since high school in the early 80s. I bought a bunch of the Johnny Lightnings because it is a great casting. I have released nearly every JL I own from its packaging, in the past couple days, to save storage space. I will post photos soon. |

I ended up getting bothe the regular convertible (black) and the bronze colored hardttop. I passed on the convertible with blown engine. I wish JL would have offered normal stock versions of some of the other ones they did with blown engines. |

Some of the '59 Impala photos are actually older as I had opened up the packages and replaced the toy models for storage.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
