I took Stangfreak's kind offer to grab a 2009 Jeg's Pro Stock recently, and was pleased to see the old AW logo back on a package. So it looks like I get to be the first to post a car!

The casting is a Racing Champions (and marked as such on the bottom) but the packaging is all Tom's. He must have just contracted out the car it's self. I loved all the racing replicas he did with PM (Johnny Lightning) and this might be a peek into the future.

Stangfreak picked it up at a Jegs store in Ohio I think. Neat to see the logo back on a package hu?!

I love what JL did with the racing replicas, in fact that is what brought me to Johnny Lightning in the first place. Maybe I will see more coming back through Tom's new venture.

Oh, right. Duh Sir Crafty . . . it helps if you read the actual post!

Do look forward to seeing what new castings TL comes up with for this year.

I had heard that, but this was the first I have seen in person. Were the other cars also porduced by RC2?

Basically, this casting is a plastic baseplate, as mentioned, with the tradional "Racing Champions" logo and a 2006 copyright date... this info is all part of the baseplate casting.

Silkscreened to the baseplate is a February 5, 2009 date and in another spot is the name "Auto World" and a copyright date of 2009 by "Round 2".

Thanks,

Kimmo

Correct me if I am wrong, but i recall someone telling me that Lowe / AW had leased the RC/ Ertl casting dies from Learning Curve last year. Question: How can a 2009 car have a 2006 copyrighted date? Could the baseplate have been taken from another earlier model?
According to the AW site, Lowe has been issuing 1:18 scale American Muscle cars for some time. These were originally issued by Ertl before and at the end of the RC connection.

Yes, it appears the casting was developed several years earlier. What I thought did not happen in 2006; however, is that the "Racing Champions" logo was still used on baseplates... or I am having an anti-mind meld.

I wonder if this could be because AW in 1:64 is just getting off the ground and since the original base was available, "Why not use it"? Just a thought. If the casings were issued by Learning Curve, I'd say why not; since they are owned by RC's parent company. But since the dies and tools have been leased to Tom Lowe and AW, only he knows!
