Yesterday was the bitterly cold Heavy Metal Classic at Standlake, one of their biggest meetings of the year. This time round they experimented with 3 classes - unlimiteds, under 1800cc bangers and a class solely for Ford Mondeos. The array of machinery and paintwork on display was stunning, but it's just a shame the actual racing was a bit of a let down, from the 203 cars booked in about 50 didn't turn up and compared to other years, this was one of the quietest HMCs for a long time. I didn't take many wreck pics becuase it was heaving and I didn't want to lose my place...also the footage from my camcorder has decided to chuck a wobbly so there may not be a video, at least not for the time being until I sort it out.... Here are the best tin/paintjobs, there are a few more pics and the wreck photos I took at the link at the end. Those of you who worship Mustangs may want to look away now....... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The first Vauxhall Omega limo ever raced, unfortunately only got a photo of it after the first race so it's not fresh ![]() Then there was the controversy surrounding this..... ![]() The bloke, a local racer who's dad is a marshall had booked in with a Granada, and turned up with this out of the blue. It passed scrutineering but then was told by the track owner he wasn't allowed to race it because it broke the explicit rule banning large 4x4/station wagon type vehicles. The guy then chucked a wobbly and sped around the pits like a madman, managing to hit a couple of cars in the process and mercifully avoiding running anybody over, the end result being a 1 month ban commencing at the first meeting of the new season, which was far too lenient in my opinion. 1st off, a meet in early January! That's insane esp considering how cold it is! What do they pay out per class for such a large meet? Sweet pics Mookie. How did the Lincoln and Caddy limos hold up? The blue #5 wagon reminds me of roundbacks over here. . . What's the vintage #140 car? . . . Sounds like a spoiled brat brought the red 'n yellow Chevy Suburban in for the meet. What a moron! |

It was bloomin frezing but worth it The more modern Lincoln didn't do great but the older ones were very entertaining, 296 in the proper stretch got best entertainer unsurprisingly! The Cadillac limo only did one race before the clutch went, it will be back later in the year though so I'll see it again...140 is a Hillman Minx

he left it exactly as it is there. it went well. i think he manged to do 3 races in it. in the first race 622 gazza pushed him into the barrier which smashed the back and the front abit.. 296 terry barbers lincoln town car limo was a highlight of the day for me and it was good to see it get pushed in at the side and 2 racers off team poshwosh just totalled the side of it. its unbeleivable he managed to keep it going all day and go in the dd out of interest is the stang a 67 one? |
