Today's car of the day is Shelby Collectibles' 2010 Shelby GT 500.

Wikipedia

The Shelby Mustang is a high performance variant of the Ford Mustang built from 1965 through 1970. Following the introduction of the Fifth-generation Ford Mustang the Shelby nameplate was revived in 2007 for new high performance versions of the Mustang.

What's not to love about this model? Beautiful color scheme reminiscent of the Gulf racers of the '60s & '70s, opening hood and doors, beautiful engine and interior details, jeweled lights... The list goes on!

Wikipedia

Shelby and Ford returned for the 2007 model year with the Shelby GT500. Introduced at the 2003 New York International Auto Show, the GT500 uses a 5.4 L (330 CID) Modular 500 hp (370 kW) supercharged V8. Features include the Tremec TR-6060 6-speed manual transmission, suspension tuning, a body kit, and 18 inch wheels.

Deliveries of the Shelby GT500 began in May 2006.

A collaboration of Ford's Special Vehicle Team (SVT) and Carroll Shelby, the GT500 was produced in limited quantity for three years (approximately 10,000 units per year) on the line at Ford's Flat Rock, Michigan (AutoAlliance) assembly facility.

Wikipedia

For 2010, the Shelby GT500 Mustang was redesigned, inside and out, with the standard Ford Mustang, giving it a sleeker and more modern look. The Shelby team used the 2008 GT500KR as the starting point, and built upon its already impressive performance. The interior boasts vastly upgraded quality. Along with the design changes, the GT500 gets an increase in power to 540 horsepower (403 kW) and 510 lb·ft (690 N·m) of torque. Shelby also set out to give the new GT500 better handling, aerodynamic profile for high speed stability and efficiency. The 2010 GT500's fuel efficiency has therefore increased by 2 miles per gallon. Like the Dodge Viper and Chevy Corvette, the GT500 is sometimes considered a supercar, due to its high horsepower rating. A fairer description though would be an evolution of the 1960s musclecars, into a high performance grand tourer (GT).

Looks like a great casting, although I'm gonna have to be picky once again by saying that those gaps betweenthe doors and the body are just too big.

This one looks way better in person. For some reason the Shelby Collectibles never do as well in close-up pictures.

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
I've got JAMES AUTO and JEDIMARIO's back on this----it may be a pretty accurate 2010 Mustang casting, but it just doesn't come over very well in close up photos. Those headight pieces would look better if the back inset was painted black, the body proportions just seem too short and chunky. I don't know, but I still like this casting and it is in my collection.

As far as me giving up my keys to Swifty for my Hi Ho Silver 2009 Mustang, if I didn't like today's COTD, no way. I like the selection a lot, and my Mustang is booked up for over the next two months to give babes a ride or them offer me a six pack to try get this good old boy to invite them. You got a long wait, Sean.

SEAN- No such luck! I think she ran off with some guy in a K-car. She likes MoPars.

SAK! They carry the Shelby cars in WM after the post holiday "mod" (reset). They may be on a SHELF in a display box next to the M2's, which are now being sold in hard plastic clear cases instead of hanging on pegs. Look for them.

Aaaaah, SAK. Added wear and tear on your vehicle, gas is almost $3 again, bridge tolls, then you don't find what you want in Penna.,now it's wear and tear on your sanity on the way back. All this for a few toy cars
After thinking about this, those people who drive all over town when stores open, looking for treasure hunts.......now THAT is insanity. But, to each his own.
