Yep... this weekend marks the 75th anniversary of cold beer meeting cold steel. (I always liked bottles but hey, thats just me). I have a friend that collects cans, beer or soda so I got a kick out of this. But to put this in a collectors perspective it is kinda cool. Sunday, Jan. 24 marks the 75th anniversary of the beer can. So if you are a breweriana collector its time to raise a toast (or tip a can). This is kind of interesting, got it from the local paper. The rarest of all cans are the ones with "opening instructions" . They contain a beeswax lining or "keglined" to keep the steel taste out, and needed a "church key" can opener to perforate the top. Having a good condition can from the diamond anniversary era is worth about $2000. There are four ultra rare cans (Rosalie and Tiger from Chicago, Waldorf Bock from Cleveland and Class from Philadelphia that if are in good condition have a standing offer in the low six figure range (if they ever come up for sale). Just goes to show collectors collect everything. When we dismantled the old house next door I found an old beer bottle from the Olt brewery that was local here. An older gentleman helping us out said he would like to have it, I gave it to him. Then I found another (they must have been allowed to drink beer when putting up lathe for plaster in the old days). It had a chip but I eventually gave it to a bottle collector. Kinda of cool the stuff you can dig up and not even know someone may be looking for it. Edited by bob8748, Jan 23 2010, 02:07 AM.

The Mustang II is a Mustang too!

Think of how many of those went to the dump all those years ago! But you're right, one man's trash is another man's treasure, after all! |
